Senior Proposal Specialist

Summary

Provides support to the Business Development department by creating, managing, and delivering contract proposals. The Proposal Specialist builds relationships with the various departments needed for the proper creation of competitive proposals for contracts.

  • Read RFPs and note discrepancies, omissions, or vague instructions to create clarifying questions to RFP issuers.
  • Brainstorm with the team to develop proposal win-themes and strategies to boost win rates.
  • Create proposals using FHC’s style guide according to RFP requirements and populate with material from FHC’s boilerplate, relevant past proposals, and write compellingly new content as needed.
  • Complete and maintain proposal documents, working drafts, and requested forms.
  • Collaborate with SMEs and Marketing to express ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Proofread material prepared by other writers or SMEs. Participate in internal reviews.  
  • Review proposals for compliance with RFP requirements.
  • Assist in creation of PowerPoint presentations as needed.  
 
Position Requirements

Core Competencies

  • Ability to learn about FHC as a company, our standard operating procedures, and market verticals in one-on-one training settings with the Director and other members of the Proposal and Marketing Team.
  • Understanding of the complete proposal life cycle and the ability to complete all phases through to submission.
  • Ability to work on multiple assignments/deadlines while maintaining a high level of precision and attention to detail in a fast-paced team environment that rewards focus and concentration.
  • Able to creatively answer proposal questions to keep evaluators engaged. 
  • Highly skilled with MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, and PowerPoint.
  • MS Project, Visio, Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign Photoshop, etc.) a plus.
  • Nights and weekends are generally not required. Must be willing to work beyond typical business hours to meet proposal deadlines (as needed).
  • Dependable and available during business hours of 8am-4:30 pm Eastern.
  • Must be able to find creative, innovative ways to answer qual questions on RFPs given the resources provided.

  • Organization – Preparing proposal outlines in accordance with RFP requirements. Ability to organize past and new content.
  • Reading Comprehension — Attention to detail and understanding the conventions of standard English grammar and usage.
  • Active Listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Written Expression — The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.

 

Work Environment

  • Main markets include contact center, collections, and back-office processing with a specialization in higher education and state/federal level contracts. Industry experience preferred but not required.

 

Working from home Requirements:

  • This role might support occasional or permanent remote work.

 

Physical/Mental Demands

  • Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this role, an employee is frequently required to sit, talk or hear, in person and by telephone; use hands to operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk and to lift and carry reports and records weighing up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

 

  • Mental Demands - While performing the duties of this role, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information, and documents; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; work under intensive deadlines; and interact with vendors and staff in the course of work.

 

Required Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in English field or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years professional writing experience
  • 2+ years of Federal contract/proposal experience.

 

Security Clearance Requirements

  • Must be able to pass Federal background screening and/or state level criminal background screening.
