PAFA is looking for a seasonal Summer Art Camp Coordinator to join our Youth & Family Programs team for our Summer Art Camp this year. The selected indiviual will have a passion for supports arts eduction for our Philadelphia youth, enjoy collaborating and workign within a team, and have a positive, inclusive attitude.

Founded in 1805, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) is America's first school and museum of fine arts. Located in the center city of Philadelphia, PAFA is intimate in scale with a strong sense of community. PAFA offers several nondegree and certificates in studio art and art appreciation programs. PAFA’s museum has an outstanding collection of American art, and the museum actively collects and exhibits contemporary art, including work in new media. POSITION: Summer Art Camp Coordinator, seasonal

PAFA’s Youth and Family Programs department is seeking a seasonal Summer Art Camp Coordinator to perform various preparatory, organizational, and communication tasks related to our Art Camp programs. The Coordinator works with the Youth and Family Programs Manager to ensure timely preparation and high-quality implementation of all camp activities.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate with PAFA staff, camp instructors and assistants, program participants, and their parents. The Summer Art Camp Coordinator must understand the back and front end of running the camp. Many weekly responsibilities are time-sensitive, so excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize work are essential.

This seasonal position will begin as part-time, then transition to full-time once Summer Art Camp begins. We expect to have this role filled by the end of April, with an expected end date in August following the completion of Summer Art Camp. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The coordinator’s main responsibility is to ensure that all camps have what is needed to create an engaging, safe, and creative experience for our audiences and supports camp staff in daily and weekly workflow of camp programming.

  • Coordinate the scheduling for camp courses and ensure timely preparation of all camp spaces.

  • Work with instructors on planning camp activities and coordinate timely purchase of all required supplies.

  • Assist YFP Manager with administrative and other tasks including staff training and Camp open house.

  • Coordinate weekly set-ups and support the work of camp staff during the camp run ensuring the safety of the campers and the high quality of their experience.

  • Manage transitions between weeks of camp and ensure all camps are fully ready for new instructors and participants each week.

  • Support the work of camp assistants, monitoring daily and weekly timelines and the general workflow.

  • Assist YFP Manager with Monday parent orientations. Oversee and coordinate camper check-in and check-out process, lunch, and after-camp activities.

  • Coordinate Wacky Wednesdays, fieldtrips, and use of PAFA equipment and facilities (animation lab, library, still life props, etc)

  • Coordinate preparations for the Friday camp exhibitions, ensuring that staff has the necessary information and resources.

  • Process and report all incidents that occur during programs according to company policy.

  • Close all camps and flip spaces preparing them for the school semester.

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of relevant experience.
  • Artistic background and experience working in a museum and/or camp settings and in a fast-paced environment is highly preferred.

  • Excellent time management skills, organization, and the ability to multitask and prioritize work.

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

  • Basic administrative skills needed; functional understanding of excel is necessary.

  • Positive attitude and ability to be a team player and work collaboratively

  • Candidates with existing child abuse clearances preferred

  • PA Child Abuse History, FBI Identity History, and PA State Criminal clearances and other compliance staff training is mandatory. Compensation is provided.
