PAFA is looking for a seasonal their next School & Community Programs Coordinator to join our Youth & Family Programs team. The selected indiviual will be dedicated to providing arts education to the youth, a passion for arts and culture, and ability to manage relationships with our diverse community.

Founded in 1805, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) is America's first school and museum of fine arts. Located in the center city of Philadelphia, PAFA is intimate in scale with a strong sense of community. PAFA offers several nondegree and certificates in studio art and art appreciation programs. PAFA’s museum has an outstanding collection of American art, and the museum actively collects and exhibits contemporary art, including work in new media. Additionally, PAFA is home to the Brodsky Center, a print and papermaking center focused on the creation of innovative editions by contemporary artists.

POSITION: School & Community Partnerships Coordinator

This employee reports to the Manager of K-12 programs and coordinates a variety of initiatives related to PAFA’s work with school and community programs and partnerships. Primary duties will be to schedule and coordinate K-12 museum tours, outreach lessons, teacher professional development programs and art-making programs for PAFA’s school and community audiences. This employee will coordinate one of PAFA’s flagship programs - School and Community Partnerships (SCP) that provides supplemental educational programming supporting student learning and parental engagement, for predominantly bilingual audiences for various neighborhoods in Philadelphia.

This position will involve traveling to outreach locations and collaboration with staff at PAFA and community partner sites. It requires excellent communication skills, creativity, and flexibility to coordinate and deliver these programs in person, virtually or hybrid setting. The coordinator must have a desire to work with diverse audiences and engage in art appreciation and art making. They must be able to work under pressure in a fast-changing environment, problem-solve, be flexible, imaginative, and innovative.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate communication, schedules, and facilitation of K-12 programs. Process field trip requests, bus reservations, evaluation surveys and provide general administrative support for the program.  
  • Coordinate communication with partner schools and school districts, ensuring timely contract renewals and submission of support documents with all partners. 
  • Participate in development of K-12 museum tours, pre-visit materials, outreach lessons, teacher professional development programs and family art-making programs in accordance with best museum practices. 
  • Coordinate School and Community Partnership programs including but not limited to the following:  
  • Outreach classroom lessons in participating schools 
  • Outreach Workshops with Community Partners (afterschool programs, adult community workshops, and others) 
  • Parent Workshops in all participating schools and community organizations 
  • Professional development workshops for teachers in participating schools 
  • Field Trips and Art Lessons at PAFA including overseeing the logistics of transportation scheduling. 
  • Actively engage in professional development related to teaching art and literacy, 21st century skills, museum education, PAFA’s collection and special exhibitions, curriculum development, diversity, and inclusion, and other.  
  • Coordinate translation of necessary educational, promotional and evaluation materials 
  • Participate in planning and delivery of the End of Year Celebration at PAFA (Spring Festival) 
  • Maintain School and Community programs files, attendance and financial records, schedules, evaluation reports, and administrative reports for all aspects of the program. 
  • Other duties as needed 
 
Position Requirements

REQUIRMENTS:

  • B.A. is required, a Master’s degree is preferred, but not required.
  • 1-3 years of administrative experience  
  • 1-2 years of teaching experience 
  • Proficiency in Spanish is strongly preferred 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clear driving history 
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially PowerPoint, Outlook calendar, Excel) 
  • Familiarity with virtual learning and/or desire to learn 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, plan and anticipate and articulate program needs 
  • Effective communication skills and ability to be a team player and work collaboratively 
  • Experience working with children is a strong plus 
  • Experience working in a museum setting is a plus  
  • Ability to create a safe, inclusive, supportive, and creative environment for children, youth, and adults. 
  • Ability to integrate traditional and new techniques and technologies in classroom setting   
  • Candidates with existing clearances preferred
