Description

Do you crave a collaborative workplace that provides ample room for career and skills development? If so, joining the veterinary team at the Houston SPCA could be your best career move yet.

At the Houston SPCA, veterinarians can carry out the Veterinarian’s Oath in its purest form. The comfort of being able to practice medicine freely, while considering the best interests of the individual animal and the shelter population, supports veterinarian growth and confidence. We consider it an honor that our team helps to shape and advance the future of the profession as they serve as clinicians for the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in their Animal Welfare and Shelter Medicine rotation here on our campus. Veterinarians are supported by a team of knowledgeable and hard-working veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants, which allows them to focus on the challenging work of developing diagnostic and treatment plans.

Our hospital is equipped with modern diagnostic equipment for triaging injured animals from the eight counties that make up the Greater Houston area. We have digital radiography, ultrasound, dental cleaning and surgical unit, in-house laboratory equipment, and outside laboratory testing ability.  This is a great opportunity to work with mission-driven staff providing excellent care to animals in need. We treat companion pets, wildlife, farm animals, and the occasional exotic animal. This provides opportunity for veterinarians to nurture their interests in many areas of medicine!

Veterinarians at Houston SPCA play a vital role in our ongoing mission to eliminate animal cruelty. They ensure that animals are cared for medically and rehabilitated, and their expert witness testimony can bring justice for the innocent victims of animal cruelty, abuse and neglect.

Our compensation package is extremely competitive starting at $140,000 per year for experienced Veterinarians. In addition, we offer paid time off, Continuing Professional Education, 403(b) retirement plan, professional dues and license fees paid, and an outstanding work environment supported by a leadership team that genuinely cares about its people. Additionally, the Houston SPCA is a 501(c)(3) and an eligible organization for the federal student loan forgiveness program.
