About the Organization The Houston SPCA, founded in 1924, is Houston's first and largest animal protection organization and shelter. Our mission is to promote commitment to and respect for all animals and free them from suffering, abuse and exploitation. The Houston SPCA is a private, non-profit charity, funded entirely by donations, which receives no funding from the Government, United Way or national animal groups.

Description

Primary Purpose: Responsible for proactively building new and implementing established community education programs both on-campus and off-site that promote and support the organization's lifesaving mission.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Proactively seek, plan and coordinate as well as implement community events.
  • Actively participates in various adoption event activities and supporting sponsors, when appropriate on campus.
  • Oversee weekly summer education program on campus that will run June 3 through August 2.
  • Content contributor for media relations, fundraising, marketing and social media.
  • Coordinates on-campus tours and speakers bureau
  • Integrates strategic partnerships with area businesses and community organizations who want to actively support the mission of Houston SPCA.
  • Work with volunteers at various outreach events in coordination with the Volunteer Manager.

Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.

 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of experience in community outreach, education or marketing.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines, while contributing to the Communications team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must represent the Houston SPCA in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers and staff.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures.
  • Be insurable under Houston SPCA auto policy.
  • Able to drive, stand, bend, squat, walk, and talk for up to eight hours a day; able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including weekend and evening shifts.
