Central Willamette Credit Union invites well-qualified candidates to apply for our full-time Member Solutions Officer position.

The Member Solutions Officer is responsible for the collection of delinquent loans and negative accounts. The officer is to negotiate payment arrangements and maintain detailed collection records while consistently conforming to the needs, policies and procedures of the credit union as well as the FDCPA.

Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Previous consumer and real estate loan collections experience desired.

Knowledge and general understanding of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Working knowledge of collection tools, when to use them, and how to use them effectively.

Ability to utilize a PC with proficiency and a working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

Skill and dedication to maintaining detailed records and organized filing systems.

Knowledge and general understanding of repossession, foreclosure, and deed in lieu of foreclosure desired.

Working knowledge of bankruptcy proceedings as they pertain to consumer and real estate loans.

Ability to work with minimal direct supervision and guidance.

Experience in reporting to secondary market investors and private mortgage insurance companies desired.

Ability to interact effectively with members and aptitude for effective written communication with emphasis on individualized collection letters.

General understanding of accounting principles and procedures and how they pertain to collections.

Skill in typing, math, and clerical functions.

Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and overtime as necessary to meet goals and objectives.

Knowledge of garnishments and process desired.

Knowledge of Bankruptcy laws and regulations desired.

Knowledge of Soldiers and Sailors Act desired.

Must be bondable.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OAR 576-055-0000 et seq. Position Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES I & II

  • Cooperate and work with co-workers as a team member creating a positive working environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with irate, unpleasant and/or unwilling members, resolving issues and concerns in a professional manner without becoming emotionally involved.
  • Aggressively collect delinquent loans and negative accounts in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Credit Union policy/guidelines to maintain acceptable delinquency and loss ratios.
  • Responsible for hands-on daily collection activity of accounts within assigned group.
  • Counsel members on alternate payment arrangements, extension agreements, forbearance agreements, debt management agencies and other special relief provisions when appropriate.
  • Process incoming payments, garnishments, and life/disability claims.
  • Maintain detailed collection records; both written and computer generated.
  • Accept incoming phone calls.
  • “Skip trace” accounts as needed by exercising resourcefulness and ingenuity.
  • Inform members who are filing Bankruptcy of the Credit Union’s Loss and Reaffirmation policies.
  • Recommend the need for repossession, foreclosure, legal action, or outside collection agency interactions.
  • Work directly with outside vendors including attorneys, repossession agents and collection agencies.
  • Prepare periodic reports on collection activities as required and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for use by management as directed.
  • Consistently monitor status of negative balance accounts.
  • Assist employees in understanding policies, procedures, and practices of the Credit Union.
  • Maintain familiarity with credit union policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws relating to collections.
  • Promote, cross-sell, and explain Credit Union products and services in a professional and consistent manner to members.
  • Performs all responsibilities in accordance with CW Values, compliance, regulatory and Information Protection requirements.
  • Attend training and comply with CWCU policies and procedures as well as applicable State and Federal regulations
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES II

  • Assist with coordinating and performing training for collections department staff as needed.
  • Train new employees.
  • Participate and assist in the development of policies, procedures and goals for the departments.
  • Process credit correction requests.
  • Assist with processing Charge Offs.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact effectively with members and aptitude for effective written communication.
  • Ability to organize time effectively so as to fulfill the purpose of the position.
  • High level of computer literacy with full understanding of word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Knowledge of State, Federal, and other collection regulations preferred.
  • EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • MEMBER SOLUTIONS OFFICER I

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent business experience
  • Minimum of one year collections experience.

    MEMBER SOLUTIONS OFFICER II
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent business experience
  • Minimum of two years collections experience with at least one year as a collector.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Full-time hours required, with additional hours as necessary to accomplish objectives, goals and projects.
  • Vision (or corrected) to the normal range.
  • Ability to sit or stand within proximity of a computer terminal for extended periods.
