Description

POSITION PURPOSE

The Accounting Assistant – Accounts Payable will be responsible for all aspects of Accounts Payable, including vendor maintenance, invoice processing (obtaining necessary approvals, coding), cash requirements and electronic invoice review preparation, vouching invoices in accounting system, and managing payment methods.

This role will make independent decisions in all aspects of this responsibility area and work collaboratively and professionally with accounting staff and Controller to provide services consistent with the Credit Union's and Accounting team’s mission and philosophy across the organization and with all external entities.

Additional responsibilities include:
• Assisting team members as time allows
• Assisting with annual external audit examination by preparing and submitting requested materials
• Assisting in preparing assigned schedules for the annual and interim audit.
• Ad hoc projects, as requested

 
Position Requirements

• Process all CWCU Accounts Payables (including electronic payments)
• Maintain Accounts Payable-related requests in a timely manner
• Monitor, void, and stop payment of checks, as necessary
• Prepare daily/weekly/monthly GL certifications, as assigned
• Create, update and maintain all job-related Procedures.
• Assist with the completion of month-end closing process
• Process outgoing wires, as needed (Accounting and Member)
• Cooperate and work with co workers, assisting as needed
• Performs all responsibilities in accordance with CWCU Values, compliance, regulatory and Information Protection requirements
• Attend training and comply with CWCU policies and procedures as well as applicable State and Federal regulations
• Performs additional duties, as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to present a professional image to management, staff, and outside contacts
• Typing and ten key skills necessary with emphasis on accuracy
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities within deadline constraints
• Aptitude for analytical and detailed work
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Knowledge of accounting principles, with relevant knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles preferred.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Requires an Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other business related field or 3-years equivalent work based experience.
• Strong computer skill and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel)
• Experience with Great Plains or other accounting software is preferred
• Prior financial institution experience preferred
