Assistant Archivist - Part Time, Temporary

Description

Position Summary:

This position reports to the Director of Archives and Rhoden Project Archivist and is a part-time, 12-month position funded by an NEH Humanities Collections and Reference Resources grant. The Assistant Archivist will assist the Project Archivist in completing the goals of the project “Rediscovering John W. Rhoden: Processing, Cataloging, Rehousing, and Digitizing the John W. Rhoden papers.” In order to meet NEH grant deadlines and outcomes, this work must be completed within the time-frames outlined in the grant project work plan.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Project Archivist in executing processing plan
  • Assist the Project Archivist with basic conservation and rehousing
  • Assist the Project Archivist with cataloging and digitizing up to 5,000 items
  • Contribute to social media outreach initiative to promote grant project
  • Perform other grant related duties as assigned
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a graduate degree program in Library Science with an emphasis on archival practice.
  • 0-1 year of experience in an archives, library or museum.
  • Familiarity with cataloging and digitization standards.
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment as well as independently with self-initiative and minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift heavy boxes (40 lb)

Additional Information:

This is a grant-funded, 12-month (temporary), part-time position (1,200 hours). The hours for this position will be scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
