Description

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.

Summary of Responsibilities: As a part-time temporary position, this role is responsible for analyzing pharmaceutical samples via HPLC using standard methods. In addition, some general cleaning will be part of this position.

Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

  1. Solution preparation
    1. Prepare buffer.
    2. Make mobile phase.
  2. Operate high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
    1. Start and monitor HPLC instrument.
    2. Develop methods.
  3. Analyze data
    1. Perform calculations to determine the dosage of active pharmaceutical ingredient.
  4. Cleaning
    1. Clean the laboratory workspace and equipment.
    2. Clean in the chemistry department as needed.
  5. Miscellaneous
    1. Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements - Labor:

  1. General: Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations in order to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job.
  2. Physical: Should be able to perform the following and similar physical demands in completing work tasks: (Place each of the following words into one of the four repetition levels below: walking, climbing, stooping, reaching, pushing, feeling, crawling, crouching, lifting, pulling, standing, kneeling, carrying, handling, talking, hearing, seeing, sitting. Able to lift up to 30 pounds regularly.
  3. Confidentiality: Individuals must recognize that management of data, including personal information, grades, budgets, programs, and policies is necessary to the operation of the College. Such information must be kept private and confidential for the protection of the College and to obey Federal and/or State laws. Should there be doubt as to whether a certain matter is to be protected, it should be discussed with your supervisor before making a disclosure.
  4. Mental: Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum:
    1. Education/Certification: B.S. in science or similar.
    2. Experience: at least 3 months HPLC experience.
    3. Skill/Abilities: basic lab skills, pipetting, weighing powders, preparing samples, and instrumentation operation.
    4. Christian Commitment: Must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
  2. Preferred:
    1. Education/Certification: M.S. in science
    2. Experience: HPLC method development
