Description

 Salary: $20.71 an hour, eligible for CDL bonus, overtime, and other incentives

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for maintenance of all Howard Park facilities, grounds and surrounding areas including VPA Lodge, river walk and Governor Kernan Park.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Directs a crew of employees and coordinates staff as needed.

SCHEDULE & RATE: Spring/Summer: Wednesdays – Sundays, 6AM-2:30PM, Fall/Winter: Monday – Friday, 7AM-3:30 PM

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.

  • Responsible for maintenance of all Howard Park facilities and grounds including VPA Lodge, River Walk and Governor Kernan Park.
  • Duties include custodial work, mowing, trimming of grass and bushes, snow removal, leaf removal, power washing, and landscape maintenance.
  • Additional duties include operating and maintaining irrigation systems, playground inspections and assisting the Pool & Rink Engineer in the operations and maintenance of the water feature and ice rink.
  • Assists with hauling and material handling of site furniture and amenities related to park use and special events.
  • Inspects condition and cleanliness of park facilities; prioritizes cleaning based on park/facility usage and custodial standards
  • Fills out paperwork for necessary supplies and materials.
  • Fills out daily logs of work completed, and reports work orders needed for repairs.
  • Maintains clean and safe work areas, tools, and equipment.
  • Be able to communicate with the public as needed, good customer service
  • May be required to work heights of 10ft or more on ladders
  • Maintains a positive attitude and consistent performance
  • Able to maintain best practices and learn new maintenance procedures
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and understand vacations may not be approved during the ice rink season
  • Must work weekends year-round; assist with special events, and work overtime when necessary.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner.   • High school diploma or equivalent education required.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in landscape maintenance required.
  • Experience in a supervisor capacity.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in landscape maintenance. Skilled in the operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and public.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATION:  Valid Driver’s license required; Class B CDL preferred.

EQUIPMENT: Pickup truck w/ plow, miscellaneous hand and power tools, lawn boys, riding mowers, edger, trimmers, Polaris or similar equipment, Zamboni, tablet, cell phone, and snow equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employees frequently are required to stand, walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high precarious places and in frequently exposed to wet and/or humid condition, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, except when operating power equipment.
