SUPERVISION:

Non-Supervisory.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Provides support services to the Child, Adult & Family Services division. Provides life skills case management to families involved in the Child Welfare system to support them in developing and implementing strategies to increase their capacity to safely parent their children.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Family Life Skills:

  • Works with families and assigned caseworkers on completing needs assessments.
  • Create service plans with specific goals and submit them to the caseworker for integration into the family's comprehensive master treatment plan.
  • Assists parents and caregivers with essential life skills development including but not limited to household management, housekeeping, organization, nutrition and food preparation, and child safety.
  • cultures and supports families in navigating the system by providing referral information, familiarizing individuals with available services, and providing support and follow-up to access and activate available resources.
  • Work directly with the families to identify and implement structures that include daily routines that work for the family to promote self-reliance, resiliency, healthy living, and overall well-being.
  • Model and coach appropriate parenting techniques and parent-child activities through the Nurturing Parenting model. Encourage healthy family relationships and self-confidence.
  • Assists parents in establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for their children.
  • Acts as mandated reporter for referrals for potential investigation of suspected child abuse/neglect.

Family time:

  • Implements the Human Services Parent Coaching Program and follows selected curriculum. Follows all internal family time guidelines and expectations. Duties include but are not limited to intervention, assessments, coaching, scheduling visits and providing transportation.
  • Conducts assessments of parent/caregiver-child interactions to determine need of intervention from the Family Time Program. Intervention may include coaching, monitored visits, and group family time. Recommend the appropriateness of unsupervised time based on assessments.
  • Models appropriate interactions with children and engages children in meaning play including learning games and activities designed to enhance their knowledge and social skills. Provides information to parents about child development, child management, nutrition, and how to engage with their children.
  • Supports the goal of family reunification and family relationships. Encourage healthy family relationships and self-confidence.
  • Covers Family Time visitations as needed.

Caseworker Support:

  • Provides monthly service report describing contacts and attempted contacts, progress on goals, and recommendations to caseworkers and supervisors.
  • Provides feedback to parents and the caseworker assigned to the case on family interactions and observations. Observations are reported to caseworkers in written form or verbally.

Administrative:

  • Maintains a caseload of clients involved in the program areas of Prevention and Intervention Services for Children, Youth, and Families; Youth in Conflict; Children in Need of Protection.
  • Reconciles expenditures and determines appropriate funding sources for expenses in consultation with the caseworker.
  • Keeps records of contacts with clients in the TRAILS computer program, on paper as appropriate, and completes monthly summaries on contacts and progress towards treatment plans.
  • Performs assigned duties related to clerical work, data entry, and general supportive tasks.
  • Reviews all work products to ensure the highest level of quality.

Position Requirements

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as determined by Garfield County may be substituted for the following requirements.)

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Three years of previous working experience that includes customer service, direct childcare, and/or working with the public/families in a similar capacity.
  • Licenses & Certifications: Valid Driver’s License.
  • Preferred Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in social work or a human services related field. Previous work experience in a human services related position.

REQUIRED PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Sitting: The primary task involves sitting at a desk, computer, or workstation for extended periods, performing administrative tasks and using computer equipment.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting and carrying of lightweight office supplies, documents, or small packages may be required, typically not exceeding 10 pounds.
  • Bending and Reaching: May involve occasional bending or reaching to access office equipment, files, or supplies within standard office settings.
  • Grasping and Typing: Ability to use a keyboard, mouse, and office equipment, demonstrating fine motor skills for typing, clicking, and manipulating documents.
  • Visual Acuity: Clear vision for reading printed and on-screen materials, including text, graphics, and data, and for viewing computer monitors for extended periods.
  • Hearing: Adequate hearing to engage in conversations, respond to telephone calls, and interact with colleagues in a typical office environment.
  • Walking/Mobility: Occasional short walks, or mobility, within the office premises may be necessary to attend meetings, access common areas, or collaborate with colleagues.
  • Stamina: Maintain the ability to maintain focus, productivity, and attention to detail while working at a desk for standard office hours.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment. Extended periods of sitting are required.

WORK HOURS:

  • Hours are typically 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
  • There may be times when an employee may need to work outside the established work week, such as after hours or on the weekend.

REQUIRED TRAVEL:

The employee is regularly required to travel within the County.

TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT:

Computer and relevant software applications, spreadsheets, calendars, and word processing. Will also work with calculators, telephone systems, and mobile phones.
