Scottsdale Christian Academy (SCA) is a Christ-Centered covenant Christian school in our 5th decade in metropolitan Phoenix, Arizona. First founded in 1968, the high school opened in 1973, and has maintained its core mission of maximizing the God-given potential of each student, preparing them to live lives of distinction, by impacting the world for Jesus Christ. We provide a Christian worldview education with academic excellence, arts, and athletics. We are accredited by Cognia and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). SCA seeks Christian professionals who are Christ-centered, competent, compassionate, relational, of high character, and who are impassioned in their field. SCA conducts pre-employment and drug screening for all positions which includes a criminal background check, verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications. A Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card is also required.

The Director of Curriculum and Instruction (DCI) will assist in maintaining a unified curriculum and make suggestions for ongoing improvements and enhancements to the curriculum and instruction at SCA. The DCI will be a support to the school’s instructional leadership team, having a distinctive Christian educational philosophy. The DCI leads accreditation requirements for annual and ongoing certification and provides academic leadership and support for all teachers K-12 in the areas of curriculum development/implementation and instructional effectiveness. This person shall be spiritually mature and shall reflect the purpose of the school, which is always to honor Christ.

 

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field is required; Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Experience & Skills:
    • Five+ years of prior teaching experience and/or administration experience required.
    • Experience in curriculum, supervision and instructional methods preferred.
    • Previous experience in a K-12 Christian education setting preferred.
    • Experience in Christian Worldview instruction / Biblical Integration.
    • Ability to think critically, work collaboratively, respect confidentiality, and use data to make informed decisions in the best interest of the school.
    • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills.
    • Highly organized with an ability to manage a range of objectives and to execute multiple objectives concurrently.
  • Professional Certifications:
    • Certified teacher with ACSI (can be achieved upon hire).
    • Current certification (teaching or administration) in Arizona preferred.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
    • Must be able to traverse school grounds and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

    •  
    • Coordinate with Administration and teachers in developing school-wide instructional goals, objectives, and assessment instruments.
    • In partnership with the Principals and Director of Faculty and Staff Development (DFSD), conduct teacher workshops, new hire orientations, and a variety of staff development activities pertaining to researched-based best practices.
    • Counsel, confer with, and advise administration and teachers concerning instructional methods, techniques, and strategies.
    • In partnership with Administration, analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of curriculum and build cross curriculum integration.
    • Work in partnership with the DFSD with assignments related to curriculum roll out, mapping oversight and coaching with teachers, and professional development design.
    • Establish open communication with staff and community regarding curriculum and instruction, including developing and disseminating information regarding the school’s instructional programs.
    • Possess knowledge of Arizona and other state standards, and a commitment to understanding research based teaching strategies and data driven decisions.
    • Implement an ongoing procedure and analysis for curriculum review, development, and/or revision.
    • Understand and implement current ACSI requirements for accreditation. Work in partnership with Administration regarding accreditation planning and annual reporting.
    • Keep records of faculty and staff professional development CEUs.
    • Work in partnership with Principals and curriculum vendors for curriculum adoptions and/or textbook needs. Plan and implement proposed budget for curriculum each year.
    • Use textbook management system to track textbook inventory and work in partnership with accounting for ongoing purchases.
    • Assist with the selection of textbooks and resource materials.
