Description

Universal Bankers are responsible for providing a complete range of services to Valley First Credit Union members including processing member transactions, opening/closing accounts, responding to loan inquiries, and assisting with functions relative to the daily operations of the Branch.

The Universal Banker works with members to identify needs and explain products/services with the goal of converting service opportunities into a relationship building events, provides solutions to satisfy members' financial needs, opens new deposit accounts, accepts consumer loans applications, and handles member deposit transactions. This position will also cross-sell or refer consumer, business, investment and mortgage products and services as well as service existing account relationships.

  • Assesses and handles consumer member banking needs in a timely and professional manner.
  • Opens and services accounts, processes consumer loan applications, and identifies cross-selling opportunities for new and existing members.
  • Contacts potential and existing members to development new business by promoting Valley First services with the goal of expanding relationships and branch profitability.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the credit union's products, services, and promotions as well as competitor's products.
  • Displays exceptional member service and sales skills, internal service and partnership skills, and a professional attitude.
  • Processes teller transactions in an accurate and timely manner (e.g., deposits, withdrawals, payments, transfers, check cashing, negotiable instruments)
  • Processes and validates accuracy of coin and currency amounts related to incoming and outgoing cash shipments.
  • Provides support to all assigned areas of branch operations where service or assistance is needed.
  • Makes sound judgements regarding member service and risk to the credit union, effectively balances both. Understands when to escalate a problem or situation to management for resolution.
  • Looks for ways in which to complete tasks and duties in an efficient, cost-effective, and productive manner, without sacrificing excellent member service.
  • Seeks out ideas to improve processes that will improve the member's experience and communicate those ideas to Branch Management
  • Maintains accuracy and compliance in all account documentation.
  • Minimizes risk of losses, including cash differences and other controllable losses. Ensures proper coverage of adherence to dual control.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all Federal and State laws and regulations, along with the credit union's policies and procedures.
  • All other duties assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Education, Experience & Skills

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1+ years of account opening and maintenance experience.
  • Previous consumer lending experience preferred.
  • One year of cash handling and customer service experience.
  • Dependable, organized team play with a positive attitude.

  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to trouble-shoot problems and research capabilities of current or proposed products.

Physical Requirements

  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
  • The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; typing; viewing a computer screen and reading.
  • Climb/descend stairs in an emergency situation.
  • Operate routine office equipment including personal computers, copy machines, mobile and landline phones, calculator and others as needed.
  • Maintain working on a computer for six to eight hours daily, on average.
  • Work extended hours if required or requested by management.
  • Regular, reliable and timely attendance.

Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.

Pay Range and Schedule:

  • This position is a Tier 6, with a pay rate ranging from $22.00- $28.00 per hour
    • The anticipated pay rate for new hires is between the low-end and midpoint of the range, depending on experience
    • The pay rates listed above are based upon the geographic location of our Administrative Offices in Modesto, CA using the greater Central Valley area for our pay range calculations
    • This position is part-time, regularly scheduled 30 hours per week 
  • Schedule will be based around branch's hours of operation, which are as follows:
    • Monday to Thursday- 10am to 5pm
    • Friday- 10am to 6pm
  • Flexibility to occasionally work early or late hours, typically with advance notice
