General Position Summary:

The Temporary Civic Engagement Coordinator is responsible for implementing effective civic leadership and integrated voter engagement in Richmond, California. The primary program activities include political education to organize and develop the leadership of frontline communities in civic and electoral organizing that supports voter mobilization. This position supervises other voter outreach staff and contributes to the development of local voter and civic engagement campaigns. The Temporary Civic Engagement Coordinator works closely with the Richmond staff team, frontline membership, civic leaders and allies, and reports to the Civic Engagement Director. This position is based out of CBE's Richmond office.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate, facilitate, and ensure member participation in civic-political education training, workshops, and campaigns to deepen leadership development and political consciousness that empowers leaders to advocate for systems change (i.e, spokesperson/public speaking, deep canvassing, social justice/Just Transition issue areas, deep democracy, transformative organizing, co-governance, campaign strategy and analysis).

  • Create and implement culturally relevant, affirming, and accessible political education curriculum and messaging for just transition and deep democracy.

  • Lead local voter outreach campaigns, strategies, and tactics that support effective base-building and deep democracy, including political strategy development and movement building within alliance/coalition spaces (i.e, phone-banking, deep canvassing, critical thinking and analysis, campaign strategy).

  • Engage with existing organizational partners, allies and networks and develop new partnerships for movement building to achieve social, racial, economic, and environmental justice. (i.e, garner support for campaigns from elected officials, community allies, and/or funders and donors)

  • Track, analyze and evaluate data and programs to inform decisions for civic and voter engagement growth, campaign strategy, grant reports and additional needs of organizational Directors and other staff.

  • Supervise and lead in the hiring, training, and coaching of voter outreach staff, interns, and volunteers and maintain ongoing supervision check-ins with staff.

  • Support in the development of program budgets, fund development, and provide narrative reports.

  • Participate in weekly staff and campaign team meetings, staff and community gatherings, organizational equity work, and office duties as needed.

  • Maintain social justice, anti-oppression and anti-racist, Just Transition, and Transformative Organizing values and principles in both internal and external environments.

EXPERIENCE AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated commitment to environmental, environmental justice, and/or social or racial justice, and experience working with low-income communities and communities of color.

  • Equivalent of two- or four-year degree and/or at least 3+ years of paid experience, preferably prior civic engagement/electoral/political/labor campaign and/or grassroots organizing and advocacy experience working with communities of color and low-income communities.

  • Management experience, including supervision and leadership development of multiple staff and/or interns, volunteers.

  • Ability to engage in goal setting, developing/planning, implementing and evaluating campaigns and programs.

  • Familiarity with legislative and electoral processes

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, i.e. efficient in group facilitation (small 5+ people to large 100+ people), public speaking and presentation across multiple audiences.

  • Strong intrapersonal skills, i.e community friendly, ability to engage a broad spectrum of people representing various social, cultural and professional backgrounds.

  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a positive team-oriented environment.

  • High accuracy, attention to detail, consensus-building, organization and ability to prioritize multiple tasks and adhering to timelines.

  • Competent in Microsoft Office 365, Google Drive/Suite, digital organizing tools, CRM databases, i.e. PDI, CallEvo and Thrutext, Action Network, etc.

  • Strong social media skills i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

  • Willingness to work frequent evenings and weekends.

  • Willingness to travel locally and statewide.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Benefits and Compensation:

This is a temporary, full-time, exempt position, with the equivalent of a $70,762/year salary (pro-rated on a per-pay-period basis) and an average expected work week of around 40 hours. The position will begin as soon as possible and extend through March 5, with a possible extension through the end of March. Due to the temporary nature of this work, we are unable to offer most benefits; however, the position does include a therapy/mental wellness benefit, as well as a limited amount of paid sick leave.
