Description

Geneva College invites applications for a tenure track faculty appointment with the Department of Psychology and Social Services. This position begins August 2024 and will remain open until filled. Minority and female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

JOB SUMMARY:

The selected individual would teach a full-time load in Psychology and Social Services to non-majors, Psychology, Social Services, Criminal Justice, and Biopsychology majors. As a tenure-track position, student advising, scholarly activity and involvement in faculty governance is expected.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (These primary responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

  1. Teach twelve contact hours per semester in courses that may include social psychology, personality theory, statistics, research methods, biopsychology, or learning and memory.
  2. Adequately prepare all course materials and lessons (Note: preparation time will vary based on instructor experience in teaching that course)
  3. Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations, and timelines through carefully written topical outlines and approved syllabus per faculty established guidelines.
  4. Provide interesting and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes in a real-life setting.
  5. Infuse a Biblical worldview in the content of their courses.
  6. Suitably challenge, engage, support, and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect.
  7. Provide timely grades to students through college software and upload mid-term and final grades by college deadlines.
  8. Respond to student questions on a timely basis.
  9. Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus.
  10. Provide administrative support and/or leadership to the department when appropriate.
  11. Advise students for subsequent semester schedules.

Job Requirements - Administrative:

  1. General: Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations in order to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job.
  2. Physical: Must be able to perform the following: talking, hearing, and seeing. Must have sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all office equipment including, but not limited to computers, printers, copiers, scanners, and telephones.
  3. Confidentiality: Individuals must recognize that management of data, including personal information, grades, budgets, programs, and policies is necessary to the operation of the College. Such information must be kept private and confidential for the protection of the College and to obey Federal and/or State laws. Should there be doubt as to whether a certain matter is to be protected, it should be discussed with your supervisor before making a disclosure.
  4. Mental: Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum:
    1. Education/Certification: Earned Doctorate in psychology, with specific coursework in research methods and statistics. ABD considered.
    2. Experience:
      1. Evidence of active research or research potential.
      2. Some classroom experience is beneficial. Willingness to learn how to teach is essential.
    3. Skill/Abilities: creativity in teaching and program development; desire to develop academic leadership skills within the department.
    4. Christian Commitment: eligible candidates must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
  2. Preferred:
    1. Experience:
      1. Research that involves motivated undergraduate students is desirable.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Typical educational setting. Geneva College is organized around academic departments. The position is in the Department of Psychology and Social Services. Teaching is at the undergraduate level and primarily in a classroom setting.
