The Houston SPCA is a private, non-profit charity, funded entirely by donations, which receives no funding from the Government, United Way or national animal groups.   Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time   Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt   Category Financial Development/Fundraising   Description Reports to: Sr. Director of Leadership Giving Primary Purpose: The Major and Planned Giving Manager will primarily establish, develop, and implement the infrastructure to build the plans, programs, and policies needed to support fundraising activities by soliciting major, mid-level, and planned gifts. Essential Functions: Develop strategies resulting in major, mid-level, planned gifts and broad-based annual giving to achieve individual and departmental revenue goals. Create and maintain a personal annual portfolio of approximately 100 individual and foundation prospects and donors. Conduct donor strategies, including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects and donors via one-on-one meetings (in-person or online), telephone conversations, written correspondences, emails, and text messages. Directly solicit and close gifts. Design and implement all planned giving programming, including but not limited to Legacy Circle recognition, prospect and financial advisor seminars, FreeWill.com promotions, and Crescendo outreach. Research and build relationships with attorneys, trust officers, accountants, financial planners, and other estate planning professionals regarding gift opportunities for clients. Maintain excellent records and follow through. Craft and manage, as appropriate, new funding initiatives and mini-campaigns. Provide monthly development progress reports to management. Perform other tasks as assigned.   Position Requirements Knowledge, skill, and abilities needed to perform the essential functions of this position: Passion for the mission of the Houston SPCA and the Wildlife Center of Texas. Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field from an accredited university. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major and planned gifts. Self-starter who can identify and implement project and process improvements. Excellent data management and reporting experience. Skilled cross-functionally and proficient in building processes and procedures that meet team, department, and organizational goals simultaneously. Strong writing and proofreading skills. Major Gift prospect portfolio management as a front-line fundraiser, including knowledge of proven cultivation/solicitation techniques for gifts at all dollar levels with identified success in major gift fundraising. Expertise in managing planned giving programs, including soliciting and acquiring planned gift commitments (charitable bequests, beneficiary designations, immediate and differed charitable gift annuities, and other outright and deferred planned gifts) and coordinating legal paperwork for securing gifts. Knowledge of laws and regulations related to planned gifts. Experience using fundraising software/tools (such as Raiser Edge NXT and/or Crescendo) is required. Sensitivity to and respect for the privacy rights of donors in all communications. Adept at establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Must professionally represent the Houston SPCA in all situations with the public, volunteers, and co-workers. Capable of meeting deadlines and responding to multiple demands concurrently with excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and quality. Able to drive, stand, bend, squat, walk, and talk for up to eight hours a day; able to lift 25 pounds. Can work in the office with a flexible schedule, including weekend and evening shifts, as needed. This is not a remote or hybrid position. Must be insurable under the organization’s auto insurance policy and have a valid Texas driver’s license.
