About the Organization Incorporated in 1985, Fountainhead Development, Inc., (FDI), specializes in property management and is the largest privately owned hotelier in Alaska. FDI owns and operates Sophie Station Suites, Wedgewood Resort and the Bear Lodge. Each of these properties offers guest accommodations, fine dining establishments and a variety of guest services. Fountainhead Development, Inc. owns and operates the Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum, a collection that features over 84 American made antique automobiles and showcases the interesting heritage of the automobile during Alaska's post-Gold Rush era. Several autos are the only models of their marques known to remain.


In addition, FDI has a Wildlife Sanctuary at Wedgewood, which is a peaceful, 75-acre reserve that is home to an impressive variety of interior Alaska's wildlife. The sanctuary, a model wetlands restoration project, offers nature trails and observation decks.

Description

Position Summary: Performs interior and exterior preparation and painting functions.

Duties:

  • Confer with Construction Manager, Subcontractors, and other construction division trades to discuss worklists and scopes of work
  • Confer with Construction Manager regarding project prioritization
  • Read work orders and/or receive instructions from management to determine work requirements
  • Prepare sheetrock, mud and tape estimates
  • Prepare progress reports and/or cost tracking reports
  • Order materials, supplies and equipment
  • Set positive and professional example for subordinate employee regarding appearance, enthusiasm, attitude, attendance, performance and conduct
  • Mix substances or compounds as needed for work activities
  • Clean and/or prepare work areas and equipment to eliminate possible hazards
  • Fill cracks, holes, or joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers
  • Cover surfaces with drop-cloths or masking tape and paper or plastic to protect surfaces
  • Smooth surfaces using sandpaper, scrapers, brushes, steel wool, sanding machines or pressure washers
  • Apply primers or sealers as appropriate to prepare surfaces for finish coats
  • Prep/finish wood trim, mouldings, doors, cabinets and furniture with stains, paints, and varnishes
  • Apply different wall and ceiling textures including, but not limited to, flat / smooth, skip trowel, knockdown, orange peel, popcorn, etc.
  • Apply paint to surfaces
  • Use appropriate tools, such as but not limited to, brushes, paint sprayers, pressure or steam cleaners, putty knives, scrapers, caulking guns, texture sprayers, ladders, scaffolding, forklifts, and man lifts
  • Clean work area and tools upon project completion
  • Drive company vehicle
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 
Position Requirements

Education, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Valid Alaska Driver’s License
  • Current driving record sufficient to meet company insurance standards
  • 5 years painting experience preferred
  • Familiar with and able to use common painting tools, techniques and practices
  • Basic knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Able to communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers, to include effectively conveying information to others, and giving full attention to what other people are saying and taking the time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times, taking instruction from multiple sources and communicating with management regarding conflict of priorities
  • Able to present and communicate in a professional manner
  • Able to self-motivate and work independently with minimal supervision; identifying what needs to be done and following through without instruction to meet or exceed goals
  • Able to lift 60 lbs.
  • Able to perform physical activities that require considerable use and dexterity of arms, legs, and moving the whole body, to include, but not limited to: sitting, walking, bending, squatting, stooping, twisting, kneeling, reaching, tugging, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, climbing and descending stairs and ladders, and standing for long periods of time; to verbally communicate to exchange information; to see and hear within a reasonable range for a construction environment with or without correction.
