GIS Technician will support the Mobility and Public Health Divisions through advanced geospatial analytics to identify and solve complex problems and to optimize decisions; integrating real-time data to provide a comprehensive view into operations; configuring field apps to achieve efficiencies in field operations; configuring data-driven maps to guide community assessment and decision making. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with the motivation to develop and execute geospatial strategies as part of a collaborative team environment. The candidate will enthusiastically promote the value and support the expansion of geospatial solutions throughout the Mobility and Public Health areas. Duties and Responsibilities Works closely with a project team consisting of engineers, planners, public health professionals, and field personnel. Designs, develops, and implements applications for accessing and analyzing spatial data. Perform GIS troubleshooting activities and implement corrective action. Works with data sets, CAD conversions, map creations, and database management to support GIS mapping projects throughout. Designs or develops databases that include geographic or topographic data. Monitors mapping work or the updating of maps to ensure accuracy, the inclusion of new or changed information, or compliance with rules and regulations. Produces or updates overlay maps to show information boundaries or topographic features on various base maps or at different scales. Checks all layers of maps to ensure accuracy, identifying and marking errors and making corrections. Determines scales, line sizes, or colors to be used for hard copies of computerized maps, using plotters. Identifies and compiles database information to create maps in response to requests. Typical Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in information technology, geography, geographical information systems or directly related field and two years of professional level GIS programming, analysis, data management and/or cartographic products. Preferred Licensing/Certifications: Geographic Information Systems Professional or Esri Certification (preferred) Additional Information Knowledge of: Principles and practices of cartography and geospatial data management. Project management principles and practices. Principles and practices of program administration and management. Best practices, trends and emerging technologies. Principles and methods of qualitative and quantitative research. Principles and applications of critical thinking and analysis. Business math concepts. Customer service principles. Modern office technology. Skill In: Developing and maintaining data management systems. Coordinating deadlines, prioritizing work demands and monitoring technical operations. Providing data management, organization and logistics coordination. Troubleshooting data maintenance and equipment issues. Identifying GIS technical issues and recommending specialized solutions. Researching industry trends, solutions and best practices. Developing and implementing software tools, models and other automated process enhancements. Analyzing geospatial data and creating mapping products. Authoring and preparing original reports, maps, technical documents and resource materials. Interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations and standards (based on assignment). Providing customer service. Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications. Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Preferred Skill In: Spatial analysis methods and geoprocessing tools. Desktop GIS (ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, and extensions). Web GIS (ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Server). Cartographic design principles. GIS data management, workflow development, and documentation. Continue to stay current with modern and emerging technology. Knowledge of Python and SQL programing languages Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences.
