Description

Summary of Position:

This position is responsible for assisting the Director of Swim Lessons in the overall organization and administration of the Rose Bowl Aquatics Challenge Program.

Purpose of Job:

  • To maintain and develop all aspects of the Aquatics Challenge Program
  • To provide third graders in PUSD with a safe learning environment and instruction that follows the current curriculum
  • Key focus on water safety and children progressing through established swim levels
  • Responsible for insuring a well-organized and efficient program
 
Position Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Active presence during the majority of grant lessons
  • Act as a primary point of contact for the elementary schools, parents and guardians, and staff with regards to grant lesson inquiries, comments, and complaints
  • Complete knowledge of grant lesson program and curriculum
  • Assists with all reports or site visits to ensure the continuation of the program
  • Maintain current certifications including any additional trainings to improve performance
  • Responsible for contacting schools prior to their session starting to set up an orientation to our program
  • Responsible for visiting schools to give orientation or to drop off and pick up important documents
  • Responsible for distribution/collection of materials (i.e. permission slips, flyers, workbooks)
  • Responsible for ordering materials/equipment necessary for the program to function
  • Responsible for pre testing/post testing the children to track progress made throughout their session
  • Responsible for maintaining a ratio of children to instructors that allows for the best progress to be made
  • Responsible for organizing the children into groups according to their pretest level
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate attendance and other necessary records
  • Responsible for organizing four grant picnics throughout the course of the school year
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and evaluating potential employees
  • Assist in training new instructors
  • Assist in conducting in-service trainings and staff meetings
  • Assist in collecting/creating instructor schedules
  • Manage delegation of instructor duties
  • Assist instructors with lesson plans
  • Fill in as an instructor when/if needed
  • Assist in evaluating instructors regularly and providing constructive feedback
  • Responsible for strategies, goals, and objectives for monitoring and managing behavior challenges
  • Ensure that all policies and systems are understood and upheld
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by the Director of Swim Lessons or the Director of Development
  • Understand the importance of the program and the direct impact it plays on the safety of the children that participate

Qualifications:

  • Minimum one year working at an aquatic facility in a managerial role
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Strong organization skills
  • Competent computer and audio-visual skills
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups of people through a variety of situations
  • High level of emotional maturity
  • Positive attitude
  • Strong communication skills
  • An ability to lead others
  • Punctuality
  • Ability to use independent judgment when needed
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule that includes early mornings, late evenings, and weekends

Required Training/Certifications:

  • Current certifications in American Red Cross CPR and First Aid
  • Recommended but not required: American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor

Education/Experience:

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have at least one year in a supervisor role

FLSA Status:

This classification is non-exempt from FLSA requirements.

Anticipated Hourly rate:

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00

Reports to: Director of Swim Lessons/ Director of Development

Hours:

The Rose Bowl Aquatics Challenge Program operates throughout the PUSD school year. This is considered a full time position working an average of 35-40 hours per week. Must be available Monday – Friday and Saturdays on occasion. Leave or vacation will be approved by the Director of Swim Lessons and will be at times which best reflect the demands of the Aquatics Challenge Program.

If hired, you must not make any unauthorized disclosure of information concerning patrons, staff, or the facility. You must not utilize customer records for any purpose other than that directly relating to your duties. You will not be permitted to carry out any activity or use the facility for the purpose of private enterprise
