Founded in 1990, PAI provides services that empower the individual choices of adults with disabilities to achieve meaningful participation in and connection to the community. We enhance personal, community, and employment connections through a variety of innovative services including

community exploration and enrichment, life skills training, vocational skill development, job training and coaching, employment placement services, community and/or on-site employment, music and pet therapy, and utilizing technology.

Description

We are looking for a team player to manage existing development functions, thoughtfully add fundraising channels over time, and build out our communications system. This person leads by example, gets things done, and continually improves processes and the experience of stakeholders in those processes.

Candidates may have significant non-profit development, communications/marketing experience; or may bring personality, aptitudes and closely relevant non-development experience that provide an equally solid foundation for success. This role is supported by an experienced and engaged leadership team, collaborative colleagues, and a strong financial foundation.

 
Position Requirements

Responsibilities

The Development and Communications Manager is responsible for ethically and professionally achieving development goals while expanding and building communications programs, tools and content that support those objectives along with PAI’s broader visibility efforts, public policy aims and community partnership goals.

  • Develop and implement fundraising plans and campaigns to meet annual and longer-term goals. Determine funding mix, strategies, and tactics to maximize results and long-term potential.
  • Build and nurture relationships with individuals and organizations whose giving aligns with PAI’s mission and vision.
  • Manage grant request process in partnership with a contract consultant, including identifying and prioritizing grants through submission and project management where required.
  • Develop and implement effective communications and visibility channels/media, programs, and content to promote PAI with existing and new audiences.
  • Implement segmentation or similar constructs to align content and overall experience with audiences and goals.
  • Ensure quality communication and service for all donors by managing an ongoing donor relations program.
  • Personally, represent PAI with external audiences ranging from family members and guardians to community groups and associations.
  • Contribute to planning processes that support long-term goals and goal attainment for the organization.
  • Produce and leverage reporting and analytics to internal stakeholders including the PAI Board of Directors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • You are results oriented, and you value win-win outcomes and relationships.
  • You communicate very well in person and in writing. You understand how to engage people in something great, even if it is brand new to them.
  • You may not be analytical in a “quant” sense, but you do not have a math phobia either.
  • You are functional or better with Excel and donor database management or comparable systems – or at least a very quick study for the latter.
  • You have a Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years job related experience, or an Associate’s degree and compelling additional experience.
  • You will pass a DHS background study and maintain clearance.
  • You have reliable transportation for work driving purposes, proof of valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
  • You can sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle objects, type/data entry, reach with hands and arms, bend, talk, see, and hear. Many job duties involve the use of office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Must be able to occasionally lift work supplies around 25-30 lbs.
