Description

SUMMARY
The Water Works Seasonal General Laborer is responsible for various entry-level duties related to the appearance and maintenance of water treatment facilities around the City. Performs manual and semi-skilled labor while maintaining accurate daily documentation of accomplished work. Also does related work as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.
• Cleans, paints, mops, mows lawn, shovels and maintains grounds around all well houses, pumping stations, and filtration plants.
• Works around hazardous and nonhazardous chemicals at all station and locations.
• Works in and around noisy environments by industrial equipment in operation.
• Must be able to perform assigned job duties with minimal supervision.
• Must have protective boots and appropriate work attire every day.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as delegated.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, equivalent education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to perform the essential duties.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED
• Knowledge of basic tools used with grounds maintenance.
• Knowledge and capable of servicing requirements for small mechanical equipment, i.e. weed eaters, lawn mowers, and power washer.
• Skilled in operation of various hand and power tools, performing general maintenance, and communications sufficient enough to exchange or convey information and receive and follow work instructions.
• Knowledge of loading and unloading trailers used to tow equipment.
• Working knowledge of City or County government a plus

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
• Valid Driver’s License required.

EQUIPMENT
Pick up truck, snow blower, mower, trimmers, custodial tools, and miscellaneous hand tools, all safety and personal protective equipment (PPE).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl. The employee must lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed indoors/outdoors in adverse weather conditions; required to climb up structures, exposure to chemicals i.e. chlorine, hydrofluorosilicic acid, phosphate, etc. Worked performed at water treatment facilities may involve exposure to dirt, noise, hazardous materials, and adverse weather conditions. Employee frequently works alone. Individuals may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, poor ventilation, chemicals, noise and extreme temperatures.
