Community First Health Centers is currently seeking a Lactation Consultant - IBCLC to join our WIC department at our New Haven medical facility located at 58144 Gratiot Avenue. The ideal candidate for this role will be familiar with WIC Services, have the ability to build relationships easily and be a great communicator. We service a large Spanish speaking population so being bilingual would be very valuable.

Daily responsibilities of our Lactation Consultant - IBCLC may include:

• Promote breastfeeding to WIC clients
• Provide information and education to WIC clients on breastfeeding including support, benefit as well as overcoming and preventing barriers
• Conduct breastfeeding assessments and develop care plans for complex cases
• Work directly with those complex cases to overcome barriers; refer mothers to medical professionals when necessary
• Assist with content development for classes and educational materials
• Mentor WIC staff members; train all WIC staff members at least twice annually
• Provide lactation orientation to new WIC staff members
• Assist with outreach activities and make presentations to groups/individuals as needed
• Assist with recommendations on breast pump orders
• Assist with goals and objectives for annual WIC Nutrition Services Plan
• Keep accurate records in the MI-WIC system of all contact/follow up with WIC clients
• Attend and participate in required continuing education, meeting(s) and/or in-service(s) as required
• Participation in Quality Improvement initiatives
• Other duties as assigned

This is a part time opportunity; 8 hours per week.

Hours will be gained Monday thru Friday; 830a-5p but some flexibility will be required; specific days/hours will be set with chosen candidate.

Position Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• IBCLC credential required
• Bilingual preferred; Spanish
• IBCLC credential
• Experience with breastfeeding information, assessments and consultations – at least 2 years
• Training, education and/or experience will be taken into consideration
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, to effectively and tactfully deal with a diverse group of patients, staff, customers and community groups
• General computer proficiency
• Must maintain Basic Life Support certification
