Job Description and Summary:

TheReceiving/ShippingAssistantmanages all incoming deliveries to the warehouse by verifying and signing for shipments, unloading, and storing the received items, and processing any returns. Receiving duties will include weighing, measuring and checking in received company products, supplies, and equipment for keeping relevant records. Shipping dutiesinclude assisting the Shipping Clerk with tasks such as printing labels, ensuring accuracy and timelinessof shipments being picked up, among others. This position offers the opportunity to be an important part of the Warehouse Operations along with some cross-training and room for growth.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Includes but not limited to the following:

  • Receives, examines, unpacks, counts, measures, and verifies incoming shipments against invoices, bills of lading, and other documents, looking or shortages, and rejecting of damages goods in accordance with company SOP procedures/specifications
  • Operates forklift, moves, organizes, stocks & restocks warehouse items in appropriate storage areas & issues merchandise receipts from ERP database.
  • Regularly maintains & logs items into inventory computer database according to required procedures.
  • Prepares freight quotes, contacts vendors/suppliers regarding delivery schedules & shipping instructions.
  • Identifies & resolves receiving/shipping problems/issues on items not properly shipped or documented correctly & reports problems to management.
  • Performs routine and annual material warehouse audits/reconciliation process & reports discrepancies to management, offering recommendations for SOP improvements; prepares required audit reports.
  • Assists management with recycling of materials in the warehouse.
  • Interacts regularly with customers, internal departments, management, vendors & suppliers & proactively communicates shipping/receiving status, merchandise delays, or delivery problems.
  • Prepares merchandise for shipments, verifying item contents, delivery methods & other logistical details.
  • Accurately packages, labels, seal & weighs out-going shipments & determines shipping methods required to meet shipping/receiving schedules.
  • Inspects incoming shipments for defects, shortages & damages & prepares shipping labels with correct postage & special delivery instructions.
  • Maintains accurate shipping records and updates inventory database of all shipped products.
  • As directed by management, assists warehouse personnel with general warehouse duties (stocking, pulling stock, packaging, material handling & related job duties), with a willingness to be cross trained & to proactively support warehouse operations.
  • Performs other job-related duties, special projects & job tasks as directed by management.
 
Position Requirements

Experience and Qualifications:

  • AA Degree.  Vocational Training Certificate in Inventory Management or Shipping and Logistics related field may be considered
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in an Inventory, Shipping or Receiving role in a manufacturing or distribution environment
  • Proficient math skills, organization/recordkeeping skills & computer skills (working knowledge of PC’s, including QuickBooks, Acctivate, Word, Excel, FedEx Ship Manager, and UPS Worldship)
  • Proficient use of English language & ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Current or Prior Forklift Certification and experience with a positive track record of safe material handling.
  • Knowledge or Prior use of RF scanner
  • Ability to handle multiple job duties, adapt quickly to workplace changes & to work overtime as needed.
  • Typing: 45-50 wpm.
  • Ability to proactively work under pressure within allotted timeframes and cut-off dates.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Maintaining a reliable, satisfactory attendance/punctuality record is an essential requirement of this job.
  • Willingness to be cross trained, to train others & to work as part of a team in other areas of warehouse operations.
