Overview

This internship allows students to join the Motown Museum as an integral member of the Development Team. In their role, students will be involved in creating, administering, and implementing processes as they relate to fundraising, donor relationships and membership initiatives. Students will participate in planning and executing special events and activations on and off campus in support of Development as well as interfacing with leadership in meetings.

 

Essential Functions

  • Assist in developing a more engaging Membership program for donors.
  • Research and propose Membership engagements.
  • Work with Programs and Retail departments to identify Member engagement opportunities.
  • Set up meetings with local businesses to include discounts, giveaways or access to presale info for members.
  • Help to plan and implement annual donor gift initiative and contests.
  • Periodically sell Memberships at the Museum.
  • Attend events that feature a membership sales opportunities.
  • Assist with planning and execution of other campus and off campus visits, special events, third-party events, meetings and alumni. and donor activities; including preparation of invitation lists and coordinating details of events.
  • Hands-on support at event involving set-up, registration, attendance and tear-down.

  • Learn how to plan a Membership activation calendar.

 

Competencies

  • Demonstrate excellent written and interpersonal communications with a proficiency in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Detail-oriented; able to proofread and edit letters, proposals, and other communications.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

No.

 

Work Environment

  • Most work will take place in and office setting with occasional events at Museum and off-site.
  • Office often has background noise (Music being played outside).

 

This position operates in an office setting and collections storage facility. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and preservation tools, including scissors or boxcutters. Occasional temperature changes.

 

Physical Demands/Strength

  • Light lifting involved in event set up and breakdown.

 

Environmental Conditions

Moderate noise.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

6 weeks / Minimum 25 hours per week

 

Travel

Students will need a car to drive to and from the Motown Museum facilities unless virtual work is arranged.

 

Education/Experience

  • Must currently be enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  • Must currently be enrolled in Philanthropy or Nonprofit studies.
  • An interest in and/or knowledge of music is preferrable.
