Description

The Texas Hospital Association is the primary advocate and unified voice for Texas hospitals. Join the team and be on the forefront of a health care transformation.

The Texas Hospital Association seeks a creative, media-savvy leader to enhance and sustain the Association brand and reputation, develop and manage external and internal strategic communications and marketing, and lead the promotion of the Association’s advocacy activities and strategic projects.

The VP is responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of all the Association’s communications, marketing strategies and media relations activities. This includes enhancing and maintaining branding for the Texas Hospital Association and its family of companies. This leader strategically counsels and influences senior management on the communication of issues. Provides strategic direction in image and issue management, implementation of member communication, public and media relations, and social media programs. Comprehends and understands complex advocacy issues and develops and implements advocacy communications plans and tactics directed to Association members and external audiences, including the news media, legislators/regulators and the public. Serves as the primary contact for THA with the news media. Provides direction and counsel to business line/unit managers in developing marketing, budgets, timelines and strategies.

 
Position Requirements

Qualifications:

Requires a thorough understanding of several specialized areas of knowledge: health care; communications; public relations; external affairs; advocacy; media relations, marketing and social media.

Knowledge required is normally equivalent to the attainment of a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism. Prefer a Master’s in Journalism or other related Communications area.

At least 10 years of communications experience required with a minimum of 5 years prior media experience.

Candidate must possess:

Demonstrated knowledge of business practices, education, planning, management, and leadership skills with demonstrated expertise successfully defining marketing strategies and developing executable strategic communication plans to support the strategic direction and aligning business plans with organizational objectives.

Strong verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to describe and communicate complex concepts and information in understandable terms to internal and external users in a variety of formats and presentations.

Excellent interpersonal skills and an aptitude for establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships. Demonstrates a strong commitment to working collaboratively across functions and departments/divisions/companies. Is able to work calmly in a high-pressure environment.

Expertise as leader and change agent with the ability to positively influence ideas and services. Is a servant leader.

Demonstrated ability to coordinate and/or lead multiple projects simultaneously, the experience and ability to manage resources in a matrix/cross-functional organization, and the capacity for creating, identifying, and capitalizing on opportunities.

Ability to travel 30% of the time with occasional overnight stays.
