Job summary

This position is responsible for patrolling and monitoring the premises and buildings and ensure the safety of residents and personnel.

Essential duties and responsibilities: Include the following; other duties may be assigned.

Protect property by patrolling the area, ensure buildings are secure and locked, inspect that windows and door locks are in place.

Unlock doors and gates before the morning staff arrives, including buildings: West Parlor, Fitness Center, Meeting House, and upstairs and downstairs of main building.

Monitor entrance of property through surveillance.

Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities.

Identify visitors and/or guests.

Stop suspicious people and ask for identification; ask unwanted individuals to leave the premises.

Call the Sheriff or Fire Department in case of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized or suspicious persons.

Respond to alarms and calls of distress and as first responder proceed with first aid and/or CPR.

Be available to assist nursing staff if needed.

Use walkie-talkies to stay in contact with personnel.

Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions, and provide information during non-business hours or when switchboard is closed.

Walk the interior courtyards.

Escort or drive surrey cart to transport staff to their cars.

Develop and maintain a good working rapport with other departments by circulating within the facility.

Interpret the facility's policies and procedures to personnel, residents, family members, visitors, etc., as directed by the Administrator.

Use equipment and materials in a safe and acceptable manner, follow established safety procedures, use appropriate safeguards, and observe common sense rules of safety in all on-the-job activities including the Injury and Illness Prevention Program.

Conduct self in a manner that reflects credit on Carmel Valley Manor and encourages others to do the same.

 
Position Requirements

Qualifications (Education and/or Experience):

High school graduate or equivalent required; experience as a security officer preferred.

Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.   

Hold a valid CPR and First Aid certification.    

 

Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form I-9 in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

 

Must know how to operate computer and surveillance monitor.

 

Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

 

Must be able to demonstrate leadership and communication skills (both verbal and written) and must be able to read, write give and follow oral and written instruction in the English language.

 

Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents, staff, based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.

 

 

Must possess the ability to deal tactfully and work harmoniously with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.

 

Must be able to show courtesy and tact and reasonable speed in performance of duties.

 

Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to                              incorporate them into existing practices.

 

Maintain an effective production system, which assures efficient and effective management of               resources.

 

 

Working conditions

This job requires work to be outdoors and indoors with exposure to a variety of weather conditions.

This job requires work to be performed at night.          

Often, are exposed to walking in dark corridors, uneven ground and drive surrey cart late at night.

 Works weekends and holidays.

Some minimum office work required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to do the following:

 

Sit, stand and walk for required periods of time.

 

Speak, hear and see.

 

Use close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision and depth perception along with the ability focus vision.

 

 The employee must be able to move intermittently throughout the premises and be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.

 

Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects and tools, computers and/or controls.

 

The employee may be required to lift up to 100 pounds on occasion.

 

The employee must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position, and have the ability to relate and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at time hostile people within the facility.
