About the Organization The Children's Law Center (CLC) is a non-profit organization that represents children in custody, visitation, guardianship, paternity, family offense, and related child protective (abuse or neglect) proceedings in the Family Courts and the Integrated Domestic Violence Parts of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, and in appeals therefrom. CLC represents over 5,000 children annually in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island, providing holistic and zealous representation and support in the Court, the community and the legislature.

The mission of CLC is to provide children with a strong and effective voice in legal proceedings through providing outstanding legal and social work services.  
Description

Job Summary

The Human Resources Manager will support the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources (HR) department, ensuring payroll is processed accurately and on time, administering benefits and leave, enforcing company policies and practices, and being the 1st point of contact for HR. This role will be responsible for maintaining our HR systems, managing the employee life cycle, including onboarding, and helping to ensure HR operations run smoothly. The ideal candidate enjoys interacting with staff and is equally content with the day-to-day administrative work.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Act as the first tier of support for all staff inquiries; referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
    • Answer all inbound staff payroll-related questions;
    • Resolve all benefits-related questions and issues from staff, including managing and providing guidance on implications of address changes and qualifying life events;
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and certifications.
  • Collaborates with departmental managers to support the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions
  • Handle all administrative tasks for onboarding new hires, including facilitating new employee orientation
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Support staff open enrollment;
  • Support semi-monthly payroll;
  • Complete I-9 Employment verification for all new hires;
  • Action all employee changes and maintain proper documentation for employee files; and
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 
Position Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of HR principles and practices, including familiarity with employment and labor practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and discernment;
  • Ability to develop and manage strong interpersonal relationships at all levels of the organization;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • At least 3-4 years of related work experience, with 1-2 years direct HR experience, including payroll and benefits administration.
  • Background working in nonprofit organizations and/or experience with civic engagement a plus.
  • SHRM-CP a plus.


Salary Range

The expected salary range for this position will be from $50,000-55,000.00 depending on experience.

 

Hybrid Schedule

This is a hybrid, full-time position that requires employees to be available for work and collaboration between standard workday hours. This position will work onsite three of five workdays and two virtual days. Employees will be issued a work laptop.
