SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Document Destruction Lead, department Supervisor(s), and department Manager, the Document Destruction Driver will perform daily customer service routes and material collection for document shredding services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Operates the Document Destruction vehicle and supporting equipment including hand trucks, forklifts, pallet jacks, and lift gates.
  2. Services customer locations along the assigned route with container drop offs, exchanges, and pickups.
  3. Respond to customer inquiries and concerns; escalating concerns to management when necessary. . 
  4. Responsible for box pickups. Requires loading and wrapping pallets via manual labor. Requires loading pallets onto truck through use of pallet jacks and other equipment.
  5. Load and unload the truck at the beginning and end of each shift with containers and other necessary supplies.
  6. Weigh containers following the unloading and transferring of containers to the document destruction facility and designated area.
  7. Accurately complete pre-and-post shift inspection and preventative maintenance logs for assigned vehicle.
  8. Maintain the highest degree of security, safety, and confidentiality based on contractual requirements, AAA NAID certification, HIPAA compliance, OSHA regulations, and Opportunity Village policy and procedure.
  9. Utilization of proper safety equipment, i.e., gloves, dust masks, and protective eyewear.
  10. Responsible for accurate and legible completion of all documents, i.e., service tickets, delivery tickets, and customer documentation.
  11. Document Destruction Driver is expected to maintain communication with support team regarding route variables including, but not limited to, heavy traffic conditions, lag time with dock availability, lag time with customer specific needs and requests,
  12. Assist with shredding room operations when needed; including:
    1. Sort paper to recognize and remove non-paper materials, hazardous materials, etc.
    2. Using arms and hands move paper along conveyor belt; safely fan the materials on the conveyor belt ensuring the materials do not produce a jam in the shredding blades.
    3. Feed paper into shredding equipment safely.
    4. Relocate, maneuver, and transport full and empty shredding containers.
    5. Empty paper contents from boxes into shredding containers and/or onto to conveyor belt.
    6. Feed bale wire and prepare material bales.
    7. Assist with keeping the work areas clean and organized.
    8. Assist with collecting and weighing walk-in customer materials.
  1. Report suspected Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation, Isolation, and Abandonment (ANEIA) immediately as mandated by state law.
  2. Maintain established production metrics.
  3. May be assigned other duties as needed.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not directly supervise others.

 

 

 
Position Requirements

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, team members, and supervisors (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work with individuals with a variety of skills and abilities.
  • Ability to define problems and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret and follow instructions.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow procedures, including but not limited to NAID, HIPAA, and OSHA compliance rules.
  • Ability to operate shredding equipment safely including container tilts, on/off switches, etc.
  • Knowledge of local transportation routes.
  • Advanced truck driving skills and ability to operate a motor vehicle; knowledge of defensive driving techniques and relevant transportation laws.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and how to identify hazardous road conditions.
  • Knowledge of methods of securing and covering loads, including use of locks and straps.
  • Ability to endure all common outside weather conditions and high noise levels.
  • Must possess social perceptiveness to assess and understand other’s reactions and behaviors.
  • Ability to resolve multiple complex issues simultaneously while remaining calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to conduct tasks and successfully perform under critical deadlines.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Required: Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Required: One (1) year of truck driving experience.
  • Required: One (1) year of verifiable work experience in document destruction, warehousing, production, or related field.
  • Required: Current forklift certification or ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of starting.
  • Required: Complete annual trainings and screenings required for NAID Certification, state and federal compliance, and other Opportunity Village requirements of employment.
  • Preferred: Experience working with individuals with disabilities.

  • Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting up to fifty (50) lbs.; pushing and pulling of containers on wheels of up to 400 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, sitting, standing, pushing, lifting, and walking. Appropriate protective (closed-toed, rubber-soled) footwear required.
  • Ability to stand, walk and climb in and out of a truck the majority of the workday.
  • Frequent bending, standing, lifting, sitting, and driving.
  • Ability to endure all outside weather conditions and high noise levels.
