Duites and Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of the Curatorial Senior Management team and closely collaborate with department head and curatorial team in disseminating knowledge on the Academy collection through exhibitions, interactive experiences, publications, lectures, symposia, gallery talks, and other innovative public programs.
  • Research, conceptualize, and realize film exhibitions of different scales ranging from major thematic or monographic shows to more focused smaller-scale exhibitions, as well as art projects and events.
  • Drive all aspects of film exhibition creation and collaborate with exhibition design and production, creative and graphic design, collections and loan registration, conservation, exhibition planning, and publication departments on the execution of an exhibition.
  • Develop exhibition catalogues, its content and creative vision. In collaboration with Publication department, identify and engage contributors, and write essays, as necessary.
  • Serve as author and content specialist for other book projects.
  • Advise as a subject matter expert on the acquisition of thousands of items representing a history of motion picture production.
  • Negotiate with institutions, lenders, artists, and other external collaborators in collaboration with the Exhibition Planning team.
  • Work with the Film Programming and Education & Public Engagement Departments to create mission-driven content beyond exhibitions.
  • Serve as project lead for Academy Museum touring exhibitions, as well as shows organized by other institutions traveling to the Academy Museum.
  • Represent the Museum in media outlets or other public platforms to give content expert talks and lectures as required.
  • Manage and mentor junior curatorial staff.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Master’s degree, or equivalent, in Film and Television, Media Studies, or related field plus eight (8) years of museum curation, exhibition management, or related experience: developing and executing exhibition programs; defining needs and requirements for a successful exhibition; setting key themes and managing creative strategies; producing catalogs, programs, and events in the context of the exhibitions;
  • Performing project management including budgeting, writing proposals, presenting, recruiting, networking, and negotiating contracts and agreements;
  • Researching literature and suitable artifacts at various archives and private collections to be displayed; and representing the exhibitions in media outlets and public platforms.

The expected salary for this position is $95,000.00
