Summer hours are 6:00am to 2:00pm   Pay Rate $16.48 per hour   Description Salary - $16.48 per hour POSITION SUMMARY: Assists in maintenance of the City’s plant collections. Follow City of South Bend, and VPA safety guidelines. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:  Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as assigned. EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:  High School Diploma or equivalent education and/or experience. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of City or County government a plus. Knowledge of landscaping, gardening, or general lawn maintenance preferred. CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATION:  Valid Driver’s license required. EQUIPMENT: Shovels, rakes, hoses, pesticide applicators, edgers, saws, pruners, loppers, wrenches, hammers, other hand tools, brooms, string trimmers, mowers, blowers, tillers, other gas-powered equipment, ladders. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet but occasionally moderately loud while mowing or weed eating in the field. The employee is frequently exposed to hot, wet and humid conditions.
