Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHC) is a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic, co-educational college preparatory secondary school located in the heart of San Francisco, California. We provide academically rigorous, vibrant learning grounded in social justice and student centered pedagogy. Our entire community is committed to cultivating each student's unique talents and passions, providing myriad opportunities for students to discern and realize their individual intellectual, artistic, athletic, social, and spiritual potential. SHC is a San Francisco Archdiocesan High School that is cosponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, District of San Francisco New Orleans and the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Province of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

POSITION TITLE: SHC Instructional Coach
SUPERVISED BY: Director of Learning Innovation
FLSA STATUS: 40% FTE, Part-Time, Exempt or Non-Exempt. May be full-time if paired with other available role(s)
EFFECTIVE DATE: July 1, 2024
COMPENSATION: $27,850.00-$43,750.40

Position Summary
Through the Transformative Coaching Initiative (TCI), an Instructional Coach works in partnership with SHC faculty members to facilitate student success and well-being. Instructional Coaches will primarily partner with more experienced (not probationary) faculty on strategies to design, implement, and reflect on deeper engagement in student learning and increased student achievement. In collaboration with individuals with whom they work, Instructional Coaches will support teachers in creating their own individualized, measurable goals through cycles of reflection and feedback. Instructional Coaches are an investment in the ongoing professional development of our teachers. They are not involved in the evaluation, observation, or summative processes at the school. Through high-quality training in current best practices, Instructional Coaches will play an essential role in providing a quality educational experience, rooted in the Lasallian Vincentian Catholic mission that is collaborative and person-oriented. The motto for instructional coaching is: Excellent instruction, every day, in every classroom, for every student.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Model for students the characteristics of a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic educator;

  • Promote SHC’s mission, philosophy and Integral Student Outcomes;

  • Two year minimum commitment

  • Provide professional development and ongoing coaching to educators in order to reach school goals utilizing the Impact Cycle

  • Works with teachers to improve classroom management and climate by implementing effective research-based instructional methods, providing site coaching through lesson observation, feedback, modeling, and facilitating job shadowing experiences, with a focus on classroom management and differentiating instruction for all learners

  • Demonstrate a proficiency in Instructional Coaching

  • Demonstrate facility with video and other tools to gather data

  • Attend Instructional Coaching training conference in either April or July 2024

  • Maintain official coaching logs, document data, and track hours on a weekly basis

  • Attend and contribute to weekly Instructional Coaching learning team meetings

  • Maintain confidentiality

  • Be coached by another SHC Instructional Coach, including the use of video recording and reviewing the material with the coach

  • Reflect on personal growth and needs

  • Actively seek out additional support

Position Requirements

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Lasallian Vincentian Catholic mission-centered and mission-driven

  • Experience as a Department Chair, Learning Team Leader, or other academic leadership experience that required overseeing and supporting teachers

  • Minimum four (4) years full time classroom teaching experience

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Willingness to be coached

  • Life long learner

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Familiarity with California State Standards in the subject area in which the teacher holds a credential

  • Familiarity with the California Standards for the Teaching Profession

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience as coachee

  • Experience as an Instructional Coach

  • Experience in development and implementation of professional development activities.

  • Trained in instructional practices facilitated by Instructional Coaching Group (ICG), Bright Morning, or similar instructional coaching models

  • Lasaillian Vincentian formation or formation within Catholic educational institution

  • Interest and expertise in an education practice, such as: equity, social-emotional learning, STEM, literacy, Catholic identity, Humanities, Artificial Intelligence, etc.

  • Master’s Degree

Certifications and/or Licensure

  • Teaching Credential or Career Technical Education (CTE) Credential required (or equivalent for Theology teacher)
  • Must complete Instructional Coaching training conference in either April or July 2024

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft software applications, Google Suite; databases (such as a learning management system) and internet usage.
