Certified Medical Assistant (PRN)-RICH Clinic 

Description

The Richmond Behavioral Health Authority is seeking to hire a compassioniate and energetic PRN Certified Medical Assistant to join our RICH Clinic. The successful applicant will perform intermediate skilled human support work maintaining the safety of clients, monitoring clients that may present with special needs, coordinating medical/wellness appointments with internal as well as external medical providers and other specialized settings; encouraging clients to adhere to medication and other treatment requirements; and related work as apparent or assigned. Is responsible for the coordination of specific health services under the supervision of qualified nursing staff. Other work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Team Leader, Program Supervisor or Program Manager.

Essential Functions

Administers medication to clients in accordance with agency policy and standard medication protocol; documents reasons why prescribed drugs are not administered;

Takes vital signs of clients and observes client to detect response to specified medications;

Completes urinalyses (observing urine samples, testing onsite and/or packaging for laboratory.,

Assists with PAPs or other exams, gives injections, gives other in-office treatments (e.g., nebulizer treatment);

Ensures that an appropriate level of medical supplies and equipment are available for use by clients;

Reviews all medical/wellness requests made by clients to ensure that services have been appropriately coordinated;

Prepares and maintains clinical documentation in the electronic health record and completes progress notes; completes shift reports in a timely manner;

Facilitates and leads activities; engages clients;

Maintains the safety and cleanliness of the clinic; and

Performs filing duties and provides directions.

 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of medications, side effects and adverse reactions related to the same as well as techniques related to administering medications. General knowledge of interviewing and supportive counseling techniques; some knowledge of human development and behavior; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; ability to analyze facts and exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions; ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, orally and in writing; ability to prepare clear and concise reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical personnel, law enforcement, clients, associates and the general public.

Education and Experience

High School diploma required. At least 1-year experience working with individuals diagnoses with mental illness, substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders, group facilitation, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Medical office experience (1 year preferred); Vital signs experience (1 year preferred).

Special Requirements

Valid Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant in the State of Virginia Required

CPR/First Aide Certified Perferred.

Valid driver’s license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Basic typing and computer skills.

Starting Salary Range 22.41 per hour
