Position Description:

Nursing program instructors are responsible for establishing and promoting an effective learning environment for students and successfully achieving learning outcomes for assigned courses. These responsibilities are performed in the classroom, laboratory and clinical setting for the PN Certificate and Associate Degree Nursing Program. Faculty will participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of all courses offered in the ACC Nursing Program and contribute program quality improvement methods within the curriculum. The primary focus of this position will be medical surgical nursing. This position will start for the 2024-2025 Academic Year (August 2024).

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Guide nursing students toward achievement of course objectives by teaching in the classroom, laboratory and clinical setting. Teaching load as determined by the Master Agreement.
  2. Prepare, revise and distribute course syllabi to students for all courses taught, meeting nursing program guidelines.
  3. Collaborate clinical instruction with adjunct clinical faculty teaching the same clinical course to maintain nursing program course delivery consistency.
  4. Evaluate student progress towards course objectives and final grade determination through examinations, observations of clinical performance, quizzes, reports, projects, etc., according to methods described in syllabus.
  5. Work with the academic leadership to:
  1. Develop new courses.
  2. Make recommendations and revise/update current courses.
  3. Evaluate and recommend textbook and instructional materials.
  4. Participate in curriculum or institutional self-studies.
  5. Participate in assessment processes of the college.
  6. Research job requirements and employment trends.
  7. Participate in committee work at the college, including program accreditation work.
  8. Recommend instructional materials and equipment purchases needed to attain high quality skills labs and simulation labs.
  1. Perform various student functions including academic advising, articulation and scheduling courses for registration and graduation requirements.
  2. Participate in scheduled faculty meetings, in-service and training programs, student orientations, pinning and commencement ceremonies.
  3. Maintain a high level of professional and academic competency by participation in professional development activities. Serve as a role model for students.
  4. Maintain weekly office hours on campus to assist students as required by the Master Agreement.
  5. Perform additional duties associated with the nursing program as assigned by the Director of Nursing and approved by the Vice President for Instruction.
  6. Assist the college admissions office to recruit nursing students.
  7. Presence on the job is an employee's fundamental obligation. Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position may supervise and provide direction to student employees and support staff within the program area.

Expected Hours of Work:

Time and service expected of a full-time faculty beyond classroom duty hours and customary professional meetings will be contained within a forty (40) hour week. Full-time faculty load, office hours and other time obligations are defined within the Faculty Council Master Agreement. College daily starting and ending time shall be established by the College Executive Council or its designee. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel:

This position may be required to travel outside the local area occasionally. Overnight travel may be expected on a rare occasion.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Effort:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit for extended periods of time; and have sufficient hand, arm and finger dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.

 
Position Requirements

Position Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in Nursing required.
  2. Unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse in Michigan required.
  3. Graduate level courses in nursing education preferred.
  4. Specialty certification(s) preferred.
  5. Recent related clinical experience in the area of teaching required.
  6. Education and 2 years’ (i.e., 4000 hours) work experience required.
  7. For Faculty assigned to clinical courses at MidMichigan Medical Center ACEMAPP compliance is required.
  8. Teaching experience preferred.
  9. Proficiency with microcomputer software programs in word processing and presentation graphics preferred.
  10. Ability to communicate electronically and aptitude to learn electronic student registration processes required.
  11. Must be willing and qualified to teach other nursing courses as contained in the programs offered to reach the minimum load requirements for full-time faculty according to the Faculty Master Agreement.
