Job Title: Health Coordinator 

Program: Early Head Start

Classification: Full Time- Exempt

Wage: $55K-60K

Location:  Washington, DC / Takoma Park, MD

Reports to: EHS Director and MD/DC Site Directors

 

Job Summary:

The EHS Health Coordinator will work directly with teachers/Home Visitors, children, and families to support the healthy personal care routines that support each child’s development and learning in Center and Home Based. The EHS Health Coordinator is responsible for caring for students and ensuring their good health at CentroNia. The EHS Health Coordinator is responsible for documenting health data and reports, monitoring, and maintaining an inventory of supplies (first aid kits, etc.). Assist with the recording and administration of medication to students when needed. The Health Coordinator must ensure that information (Emergency Contact, Medical Treatment, Family History, Assessment, and Health Forms, etc.) is gathered, reviewed for compliance, and transferred to the appropriate departments and platforms accurately and on time. Other duties may include notifying appropriate staff and parents when health-related incidents and accidents occur and working with parents, teachers, and students to promote the prevention and control of illness and disease.

Essential responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with ECE and EHS Leadership Team to plan, implement, and monitor health services programs.
  • Provide guidance on children's health issues and ensure compliance with DC/MD-DOH requirements.
  • Maintain and update student health records, including immunizations and health assessments.
  • Follow up with families on pending documents and expired medications.
  • Coordinate staff trainings on CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration, and more.
  • Conduct home visits to assess health and provide support.
  • Identify and promote best practices in infant and toddler health.
  • Support CentroNía Food and Wellness in developing health and nutrition policies.
  • Provide training for parents on preventive health services and early intervention.
  • Input data and maintain system updates in COPA information system.
  • Make referrals to local health providers for children and families.
  • Verify classroom health checks and follow up on incident reports.

Position Requirements

Key Qualifications – Required experience and education

  • Accredited health/nurse aide certificate or education in Nursing.
  • Two or more years of experience working with young children and families.
  • Knowledge of DC and MD Department of Health license requirements for Child Care providers.
  • Certified to administer medication to children.
  • Effective communication and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
