Job Title: Lead Cook

Program: Ops. & Admin. –Food and Wellness - Kitchen

Classification: Full Time (7 am to 4 pm)

Location: Silver Spring, MD

Wage: $20-$23/h (based on qualifications and experience)

Reports to: Food and Wellness Manager 

 

Job Summary:

The Lead Cook supervises food preparation and delivery and be the main contact between kitchen staff and management. This person leads and participates on the preparation of food items in accordance with CentroNía recipes and established standards in the continued effort to deliver nutritious meals, educating adults and children to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

 

Essential responsibilities:

  • Receive daily meals; assure accurate count and report problems with food, meal count, time delivery, an accuracy with the menu. 
  • Help with ordering and buying of food.
  • Responsible for filling up of the delivery tickets 
  • Responsible for weekly inventory
  • Maintains proper organization and control of all food and non-food supplies assuring that food and supplies are properly store, keep waste down through accurate portions and proper storage, assure that excess food is distributed, and keep an inventory of supplies and material needed.
  • Ensure all USDA and DOH standards and/or regulations are met
  • Responsible for all catering events

Other Duties:

  • Inventories of all kitchen equipment and food
  • Responsible for attending workshops and all service training sessions
  • Maintain all food in refrigerator on an adequate temperature as mandated by regulatory affairs
  • Maintain warm food in proper containers as regulated by USDA
  • Disinfect all dishes and utensils with proper temperature.
  • Responsible for writing orders of kitchen materials

  • Knowledge of materials and methods used in cooking
  • knowledge of sanitation standards and chemicals use in the kitchen and bathrooms
  • knowledge and experience in quantity food production, distribution and safety procedures
  • Demonstrated clear and effective interpersonal skills including neat and clean appearance
  • Ability to work within a team and follow standardized practices and/or methods
  • Able to be at work on time, meet deadlines and be flexible to reprioritize work as needed
  • Ability to lift, or pull about 35-50+ lbs

Key Qualifications – Required experience and education

  • Three years of experience in the kitchen
  • Culinary Arts or Hospitality degree preferred
  • Basic verbal and writing skills
  • Food Handler Certificate (renewal every three years)
  • Experience in lieu of educational requirements.
  • Flexibility in regards to schedules, sharing of tasks and changes in routines and plans.

Expected Work hours:

A maximum of 40 hours a week.

Travel

No traveling is expected for this position.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance
