Description

The Director of Strategic Partnerships and Advancement oversees and manages the fundraising, marketing, public relations, fundraising and donor events, and communications functions at Montpelier to promote financial success, visibility, and visitation. The Director of Strategic Partnerships and Advancement supervises the Development and Communication departments in the execution of strategic plans for the overall advancement of The Montpelier Foundation and leads Montpelier in maintaining and developing strategic partnerships in support of the mission, annual priorities, and fundraising targets. The Director of Strategic Partnerships and Advancement will work closely with the CEO to create advancement plans and institutional marketing goals reflecting the larger strategic goals of the institution and significantly increase contributed revenue, high-impact partnerships, community awareness, and powerful connections with both of Montpelier's existing stakeholders and emerging audiences. The Director of Strategic Partnerships and Advancement will be knowledgeable about Montpelier, James and Dolley Madison, the U.S. Constitution and American history, the importance of civics education, the Enslaved Community, and descendant engagement.

DUTIES

  • Collaborating with the President, develop the philanthropy plan for Montpelier including capital campaign, annual giving, corporate giving, foundation, and planned giving goals and objectives

  • Collaborating with the President, develop the overall communications and marketing strategies for Montpelier

  • Collaborating with the President, COO, and Chairs of the Advancement Committee, identify and refine giving priorities and translate those priorities into compelling opportunities for philanthropy and persuasive proposals.

  • Set and implement annual fundraising goals and manage revenue and expense budgets

  • Set and implement special fundraising campaigns with the President and Advancement Chairs as needed.

  • Construct strategies and execute plans that will markedly increase support of the annual fund, including: major giving, legacy gifts, corporate and foundation support, fundraising events, membership, grants, and digital giving programs.

  • Establish and execute strategies that advance the moves-management process.

  • Generate revenue, multi-year pledges, and future gifts that advance the Foundation's mission.

  • Personally manage a portfolio of current and prospective donors at the highest levels of giving capacity, including both individual and institutional sources, moving them through the stages of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

  • Implement strategies to achieve Montpelier's fundraising, public relations, marketing, and communication goals

  • Lead and support the communications team in developing locally, nationally, and globally relevant communications strategies, partnerships, and agreements.

  • Develop strong working relationships with board members with the goal of engaging them in the implementation of advancement plans

  • Manage Presidential-level prospective donors, including developing donor strategies

  • Staff the President on all matters related to fundraising and advancement, including talking points, letters, and speeches as needed.

  • Develop special events for major gift prospects and donors.

  • Serve as staff lead with Marketing and Development committees of the board

  • Oversee the training, mentoring, and attainment of goals of the advancement team.

  • Create and implement a robust stewardship program for current donors and a cultivation program for prospects.

  • Other duties as assigned
