Mobile Crisis Responder

Wyandot BHN is seeking a dedicated full-time Mobile Crisis Responder to join our supportive housing team! The purpose of the Mobile Crisis Responder to provide assessment, intake and intervention services in partnership with our Kansas City, Kansas community including but not limited to the Wyandotte County Jail, local hospitals, HRADAC, law enforcement entities and our 24/7 crisis center (RSI). The position is designed to provide crisis mental health assessments, intakes, interventions and resolutions in the community. Clinical services will be provided in the crisis clinic when mobile response needs are low. Mobile Crisis responder will be responsible for providing services to both adults and youth clients.

Accountabilities:

  • Works closely with community partners to problem solve complex situations and develop plans for immediate and appropriate interventions in the community.
  • Respond quickly to conduct rapid mental status assessments, suicide risk assessments, hospital screens, and intakes on-site and in the community as requested by community partners, including requests from local police departments that do not have a co-responder or with KCKPD if the co-responder is not available.
  • Provides crisis interventions on-scene in the community with individuals, families, and/or others present as needed, with an emphasis on assessing needs, securing appropriate level-of-care services, and minimizing trauma. Coordinate and facilitate referrals to appropriate services in the community and under our Wyandot Center umbrella, including RSI & Robert’s Place.
  • Conduct hospital admission screens and oversee the admission process as needed.
  • Strive to develop intervention and or diversion plans that prevent or reduce admissions to jail and hospital, when other interventions can meet the needs.
  • Prepare to quickly respond to calls at all times during a shift. Proactively outreach local hospitals, jail, RSI & Robert’s Place, police departments in order to build relationships and establish sound protocol for reaching the mobile crisis responder.
  • Follow all safety protocols, and utilize a second staff member or CIT officer whenever safety is unknown or questionable.
  • Understand and follow the guidelines and policies of the Wyandot Center work within the community partner guidelines/policies.
  • MCR will follow-up with those referred to WC services by reviewing electronic medical record.  MCR will attempt contact by phone or in person until services are bridged. 
  • MCR will document all contacts and interventions in the EHR in a timely and accurate manner, and will be responsible for monthly reports involving the MCR.
  • Contributes positively to the development of new programming and demonstrates solution-focused leadership abilities.
  • Works closely with the Justice Involved Support Team to provide clinical assessments and interventions for consumers who are involved in the criminal justice system
  • Acts as a boundary spanner for criminal justice systems, mental health systems, and additional community based service organizations. 
  • Provides assessments and intakes for consumers involved in the criminal justice system, including but not limited to assessments for Behavioral Health Court and intakes for consumers involved in Drug Court or releasing from prison on parole.
  • Adheres to and remains compliant with Medicaid, State licensing regulations, grant and other contractual standards.

Qualifications:

Education:

Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling or other mental health related field. Must have current licensure by the KS Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board such as an LMSW, LMFT, LPC, LMLP LCP, OR LSCSW.

Experience:

Must have experience providing crisis intervention assessment services.

Must have familiarity with Trauma-Informed systems of care.

Preferred experience working with individuals involved in the criminal justice system

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including both oral and written.
  • Must possess strong team skills with a positive spirit, high energy and a “can-do” personality.
  • Relevant experience in mental health crisis services and community resources.
  • Ability to recognize and be sensitive to cultural and ethnic differences.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with personnel from multiple systems, including law enforcement and community service agencies.
  • Ability to facilitate planning meetings with individuals from multiple systems.
  • Proficient in use of technology, including Microsoft Office.
  • Provide and maintain dependable transportation and auto insurance.
  • Ability to build and maintain close working relationships with clients and community partners.
  • Ability to provide direction for programming and planning purposes.
