Description

Job Description: Assist with preparing delicious dishes in our kitchen. Complete routine kitchen tasks such as preparing workstations and ingredients so that our food matches the recipes Of the C.A.C.F.P. (Child and Adult Care Food Program). The Culinary Cook needs to be able to follow instructions and all health and safety rules in our kitchen. Candidates need to be capable of functioning in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of safety procedures, including safe temperatures at which ingredients must be kept and to which food must be prepared to avoid foodborne illness.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, collaborating on complex dishes.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of other people, such as waitstaff, dishwashers, management and sometimes customers.
  • Calm demeanor to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
  • Accountability for the dishes they prepare measuring up to the expectations of management and customers alike.
  • Comprehension and organization to follow direct orders and recipes and to correctly prepare dishes to the standards of the BGCSM
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to handle tools, such as knife techniques for chopping, slicing, cutting and dicing.
  • Ability to stand in one place for hours at a time, handle extreme heat and work shifts.
  • Knowing state and federal regulations regarding safe food handling and becoming Certified
  • Cleans and sanitizes the working surfaces, tools, utensils and working area
  • Maintains overall kitchen cleanliness by sweeping, mopping of kitchen floors & walls.
  • Organizing, stocking, and dating newly delivered ingredients doing daily inventory
  • Ability to obtain approval to drive company vehicles to make deliveries daily.
  • Any other duty assigned by the Culinary Director or Culinary Consultant, Culinary administrator.

 

Training and Development:

  • Ensure you know how to use appropriate equipment read the directions and follow them.
  • Complete mandatory induction and training courses, as and when required.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and competence.
  • Ability to obtain ServSafe Managers’ Certification within the first 90 days of employment.

 

General Duties

In addition to the above, there are some general requirements that apply to all jobs.

Position Requirements

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of proven experience as cook
  • Experience in using cutting tools, cookware and bakeware
  • Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)
  • Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Very good communication skills
  • Excellent physical condition and stamina
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Diploma from a culinary school will be an advantage

Pay range: $16-$17 per hours
