Job Summary

This Membership Marketing Specialist will assist with marketing efforts to recruit and retain members of NARFE. This will include handling inquiries from Federation and Chapter leaders, managing recruitment incentive efforts, and managing the monthly renewal email and print notice processes. The successful candidate will assist with development and dissemination of membership and webinar marketing communications through various media as well as membership marketing as a whole to increase brand awareness of NARFE. This position will report to the Director of Member Engagement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following:

  • Working in coordination with the Senior Manager of Membership Data, running renewal notice process each month as well as maintaining the renewal email program with a focus on process improvement in line with best practices.
  • Assists with development and dissemination of membership and NARFE webinar marketing communications through various media outlets.
  • Manage member engagement and retention programs, including communications efforts in support of first-year member onboarding and ongoing activities to keep members engaged with NARFE and informed of association activities; Drafts communications to determine the best mix of delivery media to maximize effectiveness.
  • Assist w/ identifying potential partnership opportunities with other organizations and associations with constituencies consisting primarily of federal employees and retirees; assists Director in supporting and maintaining these partnerships and the Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) and agreements between NARFE and these organizations.
  • Represents NARFE at trade shows and health fairs as needed; researches and recommends exhibit opportunities and manages materials for all exhibits. Interacts with members and prospects at organizational events to build strong member relationships and connect with potential new members.
  • Maintain a master list of trade shows/exhibiting opportunities to share with other federation leaders that can travel locally and select where HQ will be represented.
  • Provides assistance and guidance for Federation and Chapter recruitment activities and oversees reimbursement program.
  • Monitor messages on FEDHub, responds to member comments as needed on FEDHub and calls attention to important conversations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Minimum of three years direct membership and/or subscription development experience (recruitment, engagement, and retention) efforts for an association or publisher.

Experience with membership database software a must, with focus on data management, analysis, and reporting.

Experience managing tradeshow logistics.

Well-versed in all types of membership recruitment, engagement, and retention programs.

Comfortable working with a team to develop successful membership renewal and acquisition campaigns and managing ongoing recruitment with minimal supervision.

Proficient in membership database applications, as well as Microsoft Office productivity software, such as Word and Excel (Excel at advanced level).

Expert written and oral communicator, able to write convincing and concise marketing and membership benefits copy and speak to members confidently and eloquently.

Top notch organizational skills, able to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Creative thinker and problem solver, able to identify opportunities and formulate/propose new membership development campaigns.

Self-motivated professional, comfortable performing primary tasks with little or no supervision.

Some local and/or domestic travel may be required.

Work Environment: The organization is currently operating on a hybrid work schedule (In office 3 days & Remote 2 days/week). The headquarters office is conveniently located near Braddock Road metro station in Old Town Alexandria.
