The Position:

The Family Coach will collaborate with parents, schools, and public and private entities to support caregivers in building skills to lead more fulfilling lives and strengthen parenting practices. The Family Coach will utilize evidence based curricula to assist parents in setting goals to improve parenting skills and address any barriers to self sufficiency. The Family Coach will work with participants to strengthen parenting skills, understanding of developmental milestones, and guide individuals and families in overcoming obstacles to self-sufficiency. Utilizing the Protective Factors Framework, the Family Coach will provide and/or link caregivers to comprehensive services in support of a child’s lifelong learning, health, and behavior. Through screening and assessment, parent and relationship education, home visitation, advocacy, case management, and/or service linkage, the Family Coach will identify risks, promote strengths, and equip parents with the skills and knowledge needed to overcome sources of stress, strengthen resiliency, and provide nurturing environments. Services are provided in a community setting, school, and/or in the home. This position will require working some evenings and/or weekends.

Sample Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate group workshops and individualized 1:1 sessions utilizing evidence based curricula.
  2. Conduct outreach, recruitment, and engagement for parents, couples, fathers and male parental figures to participate in services.
  3. Utilize assessment skills, motivation driven practices, and screening tools to triage families and determine appropriate services (case management, information and referral, parent education, economic stability services). Work in collaboration with colleagues to provide a continuum of care.
  4. Coordinate classes with community partners in an effort to best accommodate participants' needs.
  5. Participate in activities to evaluate the program’s effectiveness.
  6. Complete pre-program evaluation to ensure the curriculum is tailored to the needs and identified risks of participants.
  7. Support participants in developing positive parenting skills through the use of effective communication and understanding of developmental milestones.
  8. Serve as a liaison between the family and community resources to support social emotional well-being and family wellness.
  9. Promote parental resilience and social connections through engagement opportunities (workshops, Parent Café, etc.)
  10. Utilize databases to maintain accurate and timely records of program contacts, activities, and outcomes.
 
Position Requirements

Employment Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s preferred in sociology, social work, child development, or related field.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
  • Comfortable facilitating community workshops and classes with participants of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Ability to have a warm and empathetic interpersonal style to establish trusting relationships with children, parents and guardians, health professionals, and community organizations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the following topics or willingness to learn about the following topics: parent education, developmental milestones, effective communication, overcoming obstacles to self-sufficiency, conflict management, and stress management.
  • Familiarity with community resources and knowledge of family stability resources.
  • Computer and Internet literacy and excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; can adapt to using various types of software.
  • Valid automobile insurance and a valid California Driver License are required.
  • Reliable transportation is necessary to travel throughout Santa Barbara County.

Classification, Hours and Pay Rate:

  • This position is full-time (40 hours/week), non-exempt, with benefits, including: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending accounts and 403(b) retirement plan. Generous vacation, holiday, and sick leave also offered.
  • Pay range is $24.00-$26.00/hour.
