DESCRIPTION
The Course Developer/Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for developing engaging and effective online courses that meet the institution's standards for quality, consistency, and effectiveness in teaching and learning including credit hour equivalency and Quality Matters Standards. Additionally, they are responsible for collaborating with instructional designers, educators, and technology experts to create cutting-edge curricula that align with the latest educational trends and best practices. This role demands a deep understanding of the subject matter, strong course development and pedagogical skills, and the ability to translate complex concepts into engaging learner-centric content.
The Course Developer/SME will develop the 100-level Introduction to the Cannabis Industry course as part of Peirce College’s new Certificate of Proficiency in CannaBusiness. This course provides an introduction to the rapidly evolving and dynamic cannabis industry and explores the historical, initial legal, and cultural contexts of cannabis.
The Course Developer/Subject Matter Expert reports to the Program Manager, Faculty Chair, and/or Dean of the respective program(s) and may take direction from the Associate Provost, Academic Affairs. In the absence of the Program Manager, Faculty Chair, and/or Dean, Course Developers/Subject Matter Experts report directly to the Associate Provost, Academic Affairs.

Essential Functions:
Work closely with instructional designers and faculty to understand the learning objectives and course goals.
Research and remain current on the latest developments and trends in the relevant field of study.
Develop course materials, including lecture notes, assignments, assessments, and multimedia content.
Create engaging and interactive learning activities that consider different learning styles and preferences.
Collaborate with multimedia and instructional design teams to produce high-quality educational resources.
Qualifications and Experience:
A master's or doctoral degree in the relevant subject matter.
Proven experience as a subject matter expert in the specific field of study.
Strong knowledge of instructional design principles and adult learning theory.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with educational technology and software tools.
Experience in developing and delivering college-level courses is a plus.
Experience using a Learning Management System for instruction preferred.
Working Conditions (including Physical and Mental Demands):
Work is primarily organized in a remote/virtual setting (unless otherwise notated).
Regular use of the computer and phone for most aspects of the job functions. Access to a computer, Internet access, and an email account are required.
