Today with sites in Rochester, Canandaigua, Geneva, Gorham, Midlakes and Waterloo, our agencies offer an array of educational, therapeutic, recreational, residential and family support programs and services for children and adults with and without disabilities. On average, our agencies serve 3,650 families each year and employ approximately 600 people.

Description

Job Title: Lead Recreation Specialist and Lifeguard

Location: CP Rochester – Monroe County, NY

Salary: $17.00 / hour

**This position is eligible for a $500 signing bonus!! This bonus is earned and payable as follows: 25% ($125) in the pay period following the 3-month anniversary of your employment; 25% ($125) in the pay period following the 6-month anniversary of your employment; and 50% ($250) in the pay period following the one-year anniversary of your employment.**

Hours of Employment: This is a full-time 40 hours per week position, dependent on experience and certifications. Hours vary and involve days, some evenings and some weekends.

Summary/Objective: This position ensures all recreation services provided by this agency are individually focused, promote independence, productivity, and choice. In addition, the Lead Recreation Specialist will ensure that these services are integrated into the community, cost effective, and of high quality as rated by the individuals and funders. Responsible for water safety and supervision of consumers, both children and adults, and staff during swim sessions.

Requirements:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent required. Higher education degree in recreation or related field as determined by the department or program preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
  2. Experience in providing recreational services to individuals of all ages and abilities with preferred.
  3. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification preferred
  4. Red Cross, or equivalent, Advanced Lifesaving or Lifeguarding certification required
  5. Red Cross, or equivalent, First Aid and CPR certification required.
  6. Demonstrated ability to plan and organize the daily operations of the department or program.
  7. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  8. Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment in planning, implementing and evaluating programs with individuals, customers, and employees.
  9. Demonstrated tolerance for stressful interactions and situations.
  10. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office software, Electronic Health Record programs and other computer programs which are pertinent.
  11. Must have a valid NYS Driver’s License and ability to travel in the Rochester area

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  1. Must have reliable transportation to travel between locations.
  2. Ability to drive a pick-up truck and trailer preferred.

Essential Functions:

  5. Communicates effectively with peers, service providers, individuals, caregivers, family members, and the community to ensure services are individually focused and promote independence, productivity and choice.
  6. Provides oversight to ensure safety and supervision of individuals.
  7. Completes all necessary documentation and reports as required and per agency policies in a timely manner.
  8. Communicates with department supervisor and director/VP to assess progress, problem solve, make decisions and accomplish the goals of the program/department.
  9. Responsible for water safety and supervision of consumers, both children and adults, and staff during swim sessions.
  10. Responsible for initiating First Aid, water rescues and/or emergency procedures as necessary.
  11. Trains new team members as needed.
  12. Is approachable and responsive to staff.
  13. Completes tasks related to the functioning of the program or department.
  14. In collaboration with SportsNet Supervisor, takes the lead when implementing programs, activities and/or events.
  15. Communicates agency, regulatory body and departmental or program policies, procedures and standards of work in a positive manner. Shares important information regarding the safety and welfare of others.
  16. Complies with Regulatory and Agency audits (internal and external).
  17. Attends meetings as assigned and communicates information to peers.
  18. Participates in conferences, workshops and in-service training as needed or recommended to enhance job skills and personal growth and development.
  19. Adheres to agency’s policies and procedures as well as department guidelines.

Supervisory Responsibility: Provides direct supervision to SportsNet program interns. This position manages any interns that are involved in the program and is responsible for their performance management.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with consumer transfers. Ability to push and pull 250-300 pounds – maximum weight (individual in wheelchair).

Mental Requirements include: General intelligence, motor coordination skills, coordination of eyes, hands and feet, verbal intelligence and numerical intelligence.

Environmental conditions include: Noise conditions, injury exposures, atmospheric exposure to disinfecting and odor reducing cleaning supplies, cleansers and chemicals.

Travel: is primarily local during the day and evenings and employee will be expected to work at any of our partner agencies or community partner locations. Some out-of-the-area travel may be expected.
