The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures advances the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

The Marketing department at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is looking for an experienced Copywriter/Editor to write and copy edit media for different formats and platforms such as the website program pages, advancement materials, e-mail newsletters, press releases, and assorted marketing collateral. The copywriter will work with project teams to create and edit engaging, and interpretive content, to support the museum's collection, exhibitions, marketing, communications, and related activities. Assignments typically involve consulting with digital, film programming, advancement/membership, retail, and education staff, aligning production schedules with creative services, and working with staff to review drafts and media edits. You should be a strong conceptual thinker and an accomplished copywriter and editor.

 

You Will:

  • Conduct research on subject areas and contribute to project content plans by working closely with the project manager, creative lead, and technical lead to ensure the content, creative, and media combine for an engaging user experience.
  • Write and edit email newsletters supporting museum programming, events, membership, exhibitions, retail, and special announcements.
  • Assist in copywriting and editing marketing collateral including but not limited to social, digital, print, and search.
  • Write promotional scripts for radio and video.
  • Manage the editorial production process of the monthly Calendar at a Glance, museum Visitor Guide, museum signage, and additional print collateral in collaboration with museum creative services as needed.
  • Provide quality assurance testing of completed media.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A bachelor's degree in English, Creative Writing, Journalism, Marketing or Communications required. Graduate degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience writing, researching, and editing in a journalism or arts environment.
  • A portfolio of sample writing for museums, news organization, science centers, exhibitions, or cultural publications.
  • Experience writing for a variety of media, including audio, video, online, mobile, print, and interactive.
  • Capability to distill and succinctly convey relevant points of information from a variety of resources.
  • Ability to work effectively and diplomatically with a variety of people within and outside the museum.
  • An understanding of the importance and value of openness and accountability.
  • Commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds.

The expected base salary range for this role is $65,000 to $70,000. The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
