Scottsdale Christian Academy (SCA) is a Christ-Centered covenant Christian school in our 5th decade in metropolitan Phoenix, Arizona. SCA conducts pre-employment screening and drug screening for all positions which includes a criminal background check, verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications. A Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card is also required.

The Payroll Clerk will assist in all activities regarding the management of employee compensation including entering payroll information, calculating wages, and making payments with the utmost of confidentiality. The Payroll Clerk shall be spiritually mature and shall reflect the purpose of the school, which is always to honor Christ. This job description is not all-encompassing, and SCA is seeking an individual who can conduct these responsibilities with a spirit of love, compassion, customer service, and partnership with leadership.


  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree with related degree preferred
    • 2+ years of related experience in payroll responsibilities
    • Familiarity with Paychex Flex or similar software preferred
    • Experience in a school setting preferred
  • Skills:
    • Familiarity with general accounting principles
    • Experience in data collection, entry and reporting with great attention to detail and confidentiality
    • Solid knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and regulations
    • Excellent math and numerical skills
    • Outstanding organizational and time management skills
    • Excellent communication abilities with aptitude in problem-solving
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software. Paychex Flex or similar experience preferred.
    • Proficient research and analytical skills.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.


  • Perform the bi-weekly payroll process while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Collect and verify timekeeping information for all employees.
  • Calculate pay according to hours worked incorporating leaves and overtime
  • Manage and calculate taxes and deductions.
  • Enter payroll and benefits information in various software platforms, including payroll system and various benefit vendors.
  • Initiate periodical payments timely either by preparing and administering checks or making direct deposits through a bank payment system.
  • Issue statements and invoices and maintain records.
  • Update paper and electronic payroll records by entering adjustments on pay rates, employee status changes, benefit deductions, etc.
  • Calculate unemployment and severance payments.
  • Deal with complaints and questions regarding payroll from employees.
  • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in payroll.
  • Prepare and submit reports with payroll information to supervisor.
  • Cross-trains with accounting colleagues to back-up accounting functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank account management, general ledger, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
