The Position

The Community Engagement Organizer will work collaboratively with parents, school personnel, and public and private agencies to promote parent and community engagement by providing leadership development opportunities, co-facilitating and coordinating community projects and discussions, building relationships with volunteers, local community partners, service providers, and the Lompoc Unified School District. The Community Engagement Organizer will work alongside the Leadership Development and Community Organizing Manager to increase community representation in key leadership roles using equitable practices that promote race equity, diversity, inclusion, and strengths-based practices. This position is overseen by the Chief Strategy and North County Programs Officer.

Sample Job Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide input, information, and material, as requested, that support internal and external communication efforts regarding engagement opportunities and community projects via social media, e-blasts, community calendar, Lompoc Union School District, Website, and other promotional campaigns.
  2. Cultivate relationships across diverse communities, partner organizations, and leaders who support cross-collaboration in providing parent and community engagement opportunities.
  3. Co-facilitate regular community meetings to foster relationship building, collaboration, and promote equitable participation to strengthen relationships, support leadership development among community members in order for them to identify and address barriers.
  4. Identify and address improvements to working together to authentically support community members including implementation of equitable and best practices and continued communication strategies.
  5. Recruit and mobilize volunteers to carry out grassroots advocacy and engagement.
  6. Meet regularly with the Leadership Development and Community Organizing Manager to ensure fidelity of community organizing implementation.
  7. Work collaboratively in organizing and support with logistics of community projects or events, discussions, fundraisers, and leadership development workshops and trainings.
  8. Stay current with research in the field, including in racial and social justice studies, inequality, leadership development, and community organizing.
 
Position Requirements

Employment Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Social Work, Community Advocacy, Social Justice or related field is preferred.
  2. Must speak, read, write, and understand English and Spanish fluently.
  3. Ability to have an empathetic interpersonal style to establish trusting relationships with community members, community organizations, collaborative partners, and with people from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, lived experiences, and gender backgrounds.
  4. Enthusiasm and commitment to equity and inclusion
  5. Strong written and verbal skills, including one-on-one communication and in group format.
  6. Flexibility and willingness to work evenings and select weekends.
  7. Ability to successfully navigate challenging conversations among diverse groups and build consensus.
  8. Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  9. Background check required. Valid California Driver’s License and proof of insurance required. Reliable transportation is necessary.

Classification, Hours, and Pay Rate:

  • This position is full-time (40 hours/week), non-exempt, with benefits, including: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending accounts and 403(b) retirement plan. Generous vacation, holiday, and sick leave also offered.
  • Pay range is $22.00-$26.00/hour.
