The principal tasks of the School-Based Social Worker is to help students and families make the best use of available opportunities and resources and to fully develop each student's individual potential. The School Social Worker brings to the educational process an understanding of the psychosocial development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences as they interact with the educational process. The School Social Worker will work with those problems in a child's living situation that affect the child’s adjustment in school, such as the home, school, and general community. This position will mobilize family, school, and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in his or her educational program. This position will also assist in developing positive behavioral intervention strategies. The School Social Worker is supervised by the School Services Supervisor. FSA strives to be a trauma-informed and resilience-oriented organization. Because working with those impacted by trauma can affect staff in various ways, FSA actively identifies and employs methods to support staff to embody a healthy and sustainable balance of care for both themselves and others.   Sample Job Duties and Responsibilities: Services To Students Providing crisis intervention. Developing intervention strategies to increase academic success. Assisting with conflict resolution and anger management. Services To Parent/Families Working with parents to facilitate their support in their children's school adjustment. Alleviating family stress to enable the child to function more effectively in school and community. Assisting parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources. Services To School Personnel Communicate and collaborate with school staff and administration. Participate in case conferences and attend school site meetings related to students and families in need of support. Providing staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, et) affecting a student’s performance and behavior. Assessing students with mental health concerns. Assisting teachers with behavior management. School-Community Liaison Obtaining and coordinating community resources to meet students' needs. Advocating for new and improved community/school service to meet the needs of students and families. Helping the system respond effectively to each child's needs. Services To Districts Identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect. Providing case management for students and families requiring multiple resources.   Position Requirements Employment Standards: Masters Degree in Social Work or related field or ASW, AMFT, LCSW or MFT required. Graduate students/trainees may be considered for this position. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is required. Two years experience in School Social Work, Clinical Case Management or Case Management preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. Professionalism and discretion is required. Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, is required. Ability to travel between and among school sites throughout the District and to students’ homes, is required; a valid California driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation is required. Classification, Hours and Pay Rate: This position is full-time (40 hours/week), non-exempt, with benefits, including: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending accounts and 403(b) retirement plan.
