Archivist, Core Collection (Part-Time)

Job summary:

The Archivist, Core Collection assists with the maintenance of the Production Files Sub-Collection. You will be responsible for various duties including processing collections, creating and updating database records, preparing materials for digitization and performing public service.

This is a part-time position in the Core Collection Reference Files Department of the Margaret Herrick Library and reports to the Supervisor, Production Files.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Process archival collections including advertising materials such as press books, lobby cards, and promotional ephemera as well as press kits.
  • Create and update Production Files database records.
  • Retrieve, create, and preserve digital content.
  • Enter and update metadata for digitization projects.
  • Mark and clip online and hard copy publications.
  • Perform public service.
  • Additional department tasks and projects as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Master's degree in library and information science or archival studies from an accredited program or at least 5 years of experience in an archive or library.
  • Bachelor’s degree in film studies, history, art history or related field.
  • At least two years of experience in an archive or library preferred.
  • Understanding of archival principles, digital preservation practices and current metadata standards.
  • Familiarity with integrated library systems, content management systems and digital asset management systems.
  • Knowledge of film history, the film industry, and the ability to conduct extensive research.
  • Experience processing born digital materials preferred.
  • Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and a familiarity with Axiel Collections and Airtable.

  • A pleasant personality with an ability to collaborate closely with colleagues.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and retrieve boxes up to 40 pounds from high shelving units and work on a computer for long periods of time.

The expected starting salary range for this role is $23.00 The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
