Description

Peirce College is seeking adjunct faculty to provide a quality learning environment and facilitate student mastery of course and program outcomes through instruction that is practical, work-based, and career-focused within our Information Technology programs. Instructional emphasis will be on Software Development topics and courses.

Adjuncts report to the Program Manager, Faculty Chair, and/or Dean of their respective program(s) and may take direction from the Dean, Academic Operations and Faculty Development (Dean). In the absence of the Program Manager, Faculty Chair, and/or Dean, EAdjuncts report directly to the Dean, Academic Operations and Faculty Development.

Essential Functions:

  • Instructs and prepares all course-related activities to include syllabus updates, use of course companion web site, lesson planning, and assessment.
  • Accurately and promptly reports records, including student attendance, withdrawals, grades, resolving incomplete grades, and any other data as deemed necessary.
  • Provides reasonable availability to students and hosting weekly office hours are strongly encouraged. For online courses, weekly synchronous instruction is required.
  • Provides internal and external student service to include 24-hour response time (Monday-Friday) to students, fellow faculty members, and staff.
  • Attends and actively participates in in-service/professional development activities/workshops, and other meetings which may be assigned. To remain active, Adjuncts must participate in annual development as required by the Academic Operations and Faculty Support Department.
  • Other functions and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Information Technology. Doctorate/terminal degree or approved equivalent.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in higher education and/or other related experience.
  •  Industry-level software development certification desired with a minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in software application development preferred.
  • Experience teaching in online and hybrid course formats preferred.
  • Experience using a Learning Management System for instruction, i.e. Canvas LMS, preferred.
  • Full awareness and understanding of outcomes-based education, participatory and work-based learning, as well as adult learning theory and principles.
  • Proficiency in Windows operating environment as well as the knowledge of or ability to learn virtual conferencing/meeting applications, Google Workplace, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to: work independently and as part of a team in a rapidly changing environment; work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; listen carefully, to interpret accurately, and to respond appropriately to a high volume of requests; and, maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality with all aspects of the job duties. 

Working Conditions (including Physical and Mental Demands):

  • Work is performed in a remote/virtual setting (unless otherwise notated).
  • Regular use of the computer and phone for most aspects of the job functions. Access to a computer, Internet access, and an email account are required.
  • Requires the ability to occasionally travel to local offices, meetings, and/or events, if deemed necessary, which may result in exposure to other temperatures and environments.  
  • Involves frequent, and at times, intense contact with members of the College Community, especially students.
  • Management of multiple high priority items can often be described as stressful due to the number of requests/projects due simultaneously.
  • Work hours/course schedules may change based on the needs of the College.
