The Position:

Under contract with Santa Barbara County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA), the Intensive In-School (IIS) Therapist will provide intensive school-based intervention services to high-risk children and families referred by the Carpinteria Unified School District (CUSD). The IIS Therapist will provide a range of counseling, behavior modification, crisis intervention and social casework services to their assigned caseload.

Sample of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to clients as assigned, and as directed by the SELPA and/or the Individual Education Program (IEP) service plans.
  • Implement in-school interventions that entail providing both traditional therapy, as well as other therapeutic interventions including helping clients build communication skills, teaching anger management skills, and using behavior modification techniques.
  • Work closely with the IEP team and school case manager to link families with needed resources appropriate to the treatment plan.
  • Travel to multiple school sites within the districts in the SELPA contract.
  • Support collateral relationships with other members of the IEP team and other community-based agencies.
  • Participate in case conferences and attend meetings, including IEP team meetings, in regards to assigned caseload.
 
Position Requirements

Employment Standards:

  • This position requires current enrollment in a master’s or doctoral-level clinical program at an accredited university or has a Master’s degree in Counseling or related fields and is Registered/Licensed as an AMFT, APCC, or ASW. May also be a MSW or registered LMFT, LPCC, or LCSW.
  • Past clinical experience working with high risk/challenging children, teens, and families preferred.
  • Excellent clinical, interpersonal, analytical, computer, written, and verbal communication skills required.
  • Professional attitude, enjoyment of teamwork, and ability to maintain confidentiality a must.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Valid CA driver license and proof of insurance required.

 

Classification, Hours and Pay Rate:

  • Position is part-time (20.0 hours/week), non-exempt (hourly), with limited benefits. (Benefits include 403(b) retirement plan and Calm app. Generous holiday and sick leave also offered.)
  • Pay is $27.00-$34.00/hour, dependent on licensure status and experience.
