Description

The Data Protection Officer (DPO) will be responsible for leading, driving and executing the Company's privacy and personal data governance strategies, policies, procedures, and programs to ensure, promote and drive best practices and compliance throughout the organization with all applicable privacy laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. The DPO will also create and drive a privacy culture to minimize risk, align with regulatory and stakeholder expectations, and maintain customer trust.

RESPONSIBILITIES & KEY ACTIVITIES:

This role will be integrated into the VinFast US Compliance team and will be a member of VinFast's Global DPO network with accountability to VinFast's Acting CEO and the Global DPO. The mission is to manage privacy-related matters from compliance and risk management perspectives and to advise the Acting CEO and the Global DPO of any risks of breach of privacy regulations.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Adapt the VinFast Global Privacy by Design Methodology to VinFast US.
  • Deliver independent opinions on Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) compliance prior to project development and go-live implementation.
  • Advise the CEO and Global DPO of any non-compliance with internal rules and local regulations.
  • Manage the Privacy Risk & Compliance Management Platform for US data processing activities.
  • Coordinate Data Subject Request (DSR) processes and ensure all deadlines for responding are met.
  • Be the point of contact for questions regarding personal data from VinFast US employees and US customers, with the support of the Global DPO.
  • Ensure that the local Data Processing Register remains current.
  • Serve as the Global DPO's point of contact in the United States.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience as DPO or as Privacy Consultant. This can include a combination of corporate and law firm positions. Automotive industry (including electric vehicle) background a plus.
  • Juris doctorate (JD) degree and California Bar membership. Applicable advanced degree(s) a plus.
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US). Additional International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) certifications a plus.
  • Certificates in Digital Law, Personal Data Protection Law, IT Engineering a plus
  • Experience working with a Privacy Risk & Compliance Management platforms (such as One Trust, Securiti AI, Smart Global Governance, and Adequacy Tools).
  • Experience participating in DPIA workshops.
  • Ability to advise on privacy non-compliance and operational risks.
  • Experience with risk analysis methods, training animation, and training management.
  • Experience with the Internet of Things (IOT) and connectivity a plus.
  • Experience cultivating relationships with leadership, internal stakeholders, legal leaders, outside counsel, and relevant external governing and regulatory agencies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines.
  • Executive presence, confidence, and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Can-do mindset with high energy and strong work ethic.
  • Creative problem solver; not afraid to think outside the box.
  • Meticulous and thorough attention to detail.
